Running Backs in the 2005 NFL Draft
Out of the 3 running backs listed below, I would like to know the
consensus of the FOFC board on which player is an overall better running back. I have read that some people liken Cedric Beson to Ricky Williams - both good and bad. ![]() |

I've read the argument about wear-and-tear already on Benson... going by stats alone, Brown seems like the best all-around back, so if you wanted that, take him. Otherwise, if you don't care for the mileage on Benson, he looks good.

The comparison of Cedric Benson to Ricky Williams is for the intellectually lazy and/or clinically stupid.
They aren't anywhere near the same kind of runner and they're not the same kind of person. They were both black RBs at Texas with dreadlocks, so the media didn't have to think. Benson is not nearly the gifted runner that Williams was. But he's also more committed to football. A lot more committed. edit - Forgot to respond to the post. I wouldn't take any of them in the Top 10. I'm as interested as everyone to see how they pan out in the end. Basically, no opinion on who's the best. They all have pros and cons.

yeah. from everything I've read and heard, Ronnie has the best "vision" of any of the three of then, as well as the least amount of wear and tear.

Being a Bears fan I am a bit concerned about this years draft. I too like Ronnie Brown, then Beson while Williams third out of the three. However, rumor has it that the Bears will take Williams. I know that smoke screens are the thing of the norm for the NFL draft but from what I understand this is no smoke screen.

I'd love for the Steelers to get Eric Shelton from Louisville in a later round. He seems to be our type of runner. Besides these 3, is there anyone else that *could* be very good.

J.J. Arrington is an underrated RB as well stevew. I watched every game that the Auburn RBs played. Anyone that is in the media that is labelling Cadillac Williams a scatback is stupid. Cadillac broke more tackles than anyone I have seen in the last 10-15 years. This is hard to believe but I watched every game he ever played, and I'm almost positive he never ran out of bounds once in 4 years of his own volition. He is a warrior spirit. Additionally, he weighs 217 lbs. Having said all that I'd take Ronnie Brown because his hands are Chris Carter like. He might have better hands than any WR in the draft. |

I like JJ Arrington of Cal. I think he could end up being the second best back in this draft (I think Brown will definitely be a stud).

I was going to write that they are all close enough that I cannot distinguish who will be the best pro, but this quote changed my mind

Loved JJ in college, but I don't think he's a first rounder. Some team may get a pleasant suprise in the middle of round 2 though. I'd go with the smart money on Brown. |

Some guy on ESPN last week said that Fason from Florida was the best RB they've had in Gainesville since Emmitt Smith.
