Yeah, I found out yesterday. Unlike other wrestler deaths, this one wasn't due to roids but a blood clot that occured due to having surgery.

He apparently injured his ankle at the recent PPV, and died from complications from surgery (the blood clot). R.I.P.

That sucks. Sadly, I think if people said Sunny, or even Tammy Sytch, people would recognize him that way more.

Right, but the drug problem (which he did get over) had nothing to do with his death...

Of course, years of hard drug abuse doesnt have any lingering effect on your heart or body systems...

His death was the result of a blood clot, after complications from surgery. Not drug related. Maybe drugs helped the blood clot, I don't know anything about doctor stuff like that. But that's not directly what caused his death.

The way I understood it, he left the hospital early because he didn't want to take any drugs.... because of his past addiction. So in an ironic sort of way, his past addictions played a part in his death. It's a shame because both of them had cleaned up their lives.

Well... Apparently years of injection drug use can make a person far more likely to suffer serious infection after a major surgery.

The guy obviously deserves no respect or sympathy because at some point in his life he injected drugs.

a little bit more information from Candido's doctor while in ECW...

*AN EXPERT OPINION ON WHAT LED TO CHRIS CANDIDO'S PASSING*
by Dave Scherer @ 11:15:00 AM on 5/1/2005

The following story was sent to me by Dr. Marque A. Allen, who was ECW's doctor for much of the company's run./ I was saddened to hear of the untimely and unexpected death of Chris Candido. I offer this writing as a way for your readers to understand how this could happen to such a fine young man. This came as a surprise and reality check for me as my specialty is foot and ankle surgery. The development of a blood clot, or deep vein thrombosis (DVT), is not as unheard of as one would expect from this type of procedure. The clot will form in the back of the calf muscles as the flow of blood is decreased with the application of a cast, after surgery. Normal walking and movement of the foot upon the leg will serve as a pump to "push" blood back to the heart against gravity. When the speed of blood flow decreases to a fixed rate, it will start to coagulate and form a small clot that adheres to the blood vessel walls. The formation of this clot will be promoted if somebody, after surgery, does not keep their limb elevated and straight at the knee and hip, helping the flow of blood to the heart. Thus, Chris may have taken a long car or plane ride in the few days after surgery and this would put his leg with a "kink' at the knee and hip from sitting, plus hanging downward, in addition to his foot being unable to move and "pump" blood up against gravity, the clot will form. This clot is not stable and does not adhere to the blood vessel wall strongly as it is immature. When one gets up and is now mobile, the clot will break off and flow through the blood until it gets lodged in the lungs, in a real small blood vessel. Once this occurs, now this trapped clot will form an enlarging clot and the amount of lung tissue to gain oxygen is lost exponentially and the patient usually suffers a heart attack-like death. If this clot in the calf and/or lungs is caught early, it can be cured. But often most people do not realize there is a problem as the symptoms are vague and most patients will think it was associated with surgery as they develop chest pain or shortness of breath. I hope this helps your readers understand how a straightforward surgery can end in sudden and unexpected death. I also hope this may raise awareness of this killer. Rest in peace Mr. Candido I will see you again on the other side, as I once did in ECW.

R.I.P. Candido. By all accounts pretty much a class act in the ring and out.
