And The Father Says, The Aristocrats

Interesting concept for a movie. The most disgusting joke ever told, as told by over 100 different comedians.

Blog and IMDB Site
http://sundance.weblogsinc.com/entry/1234000933029330/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436078/fullcredits

And finaly, the first scene released from the movie.
WARNING: It is not work safe. It is gross. It is vile. It is not for those offended in almost any way. And it is hillarious.

I read somewhere this South Park bit doesnt even crack the top 5 in terms of being most offensive.

I must see this film .

So... has anyone else seen it yet? Lived up to the hype, almost exactly, for me.

The imdb message board for this movie has quite a bit of discussions - half of them don't get it and the ones that do, say it's really good.

It isn't being carried by many chains, since it has been released unrated by the MPAA.

Its content is absolutely filthy, revolting, disgusting, and awful -- and if you have any propensity to be offended or bothered by the use of language, this movie is not for you. Mrs. Q and I have no such hang-ups, and found it to be as good as billed. In my judgment, the best thing about it is that they maintained the element of "documentary" in the film -- it's not just a comedy special with a lot of people telling the joke, it includes information/history in pieces, and moves its focus from part to part as a revelatory method, which I think worked very well.

Funny movie. Lots of funny people. Good stuff.

Without registering to see the details, I can share the appreciation of the person who mused about the many Galalgher references. It was a deliberate motif for the movie maker(s), no doubt (to deliberately use several people's comment referencing him) - but really worked.

And if you have to ask, you don't want to know.

No. The joke is that the audience thinks the joke is funny because it's being told by famous comedians.

Also, I saw this quote on IMDB: "There is no real "punchline" to the joke. It's the telling of the joke and the anticipation of some outrageous punchline that never comes."

Meh. Sounds like comedians jacking off to each other, but I'll still see it.

More "I don't get it" stuff. The joke isn't about the punchline, it's about the delivery. This isn't a joke you open up a book and read... it's a fucking performance.

I'm starting to think that this is yet another case of "there are two kinds of people in this world..."

I can still remember his performance on Dangerfield's Young Comedian show on HBO in the 80's. It was anything but clean-cut. They were stupid one-liners (I love my mom... and you can too for just $12!), but they weren't wholesome. Once he made Dave Coulier a star, though, I lost all respect for him.

Exactly. Plus the face that the "joke" can (and is) told in many different ways - it just starts off and ends the same. It's literally what kind and how much shit you can pile on in the middle.

There's even a short segment in the movie about this matter. I think Paul Reiser does well with it, more or less in his usual way.

No, I get it. And I can imagine that there are somer comedians that could pull it off well (The South Park cut just once one of them), but I guess I'm just jaded. Saying the most offensive things you can think of in a long string just isn't as funny to me as it would have been when I was, say, a teenager. I like humor, even "offensive" humor, if there is a level of wit to it. This just wasn't witty at all.

I'm not saying anyone is bad or wrong to think it is funny, it just wasn't funny to me (and again, I think it probably is done funnier by others).

Every time I see Bob Saget it just confirms he doesn't have a clean cut image. Stand up, appearances on Half-Baked ("I suck dick for coke"), and Entourage just prove that to me. Full House was so out of his normal element, IMO.

Anyway, saw it last night. Like most indie films that get publicity, it's seemed a little over-hyped in comparison to the end product. But still, I had that exhausted feeling afterwards--the type you get from laughing too hard throughout a movie...

Yeah, whomever wrote that doesn't know Saget's career. He was considered the dirtiest comedian in Hollywood, and that was during Full House's run.

I agree with that as well. I had never heard that Saget wasn't a dirty comedian. The only anecdote I remember was some of the criticisms he received for his stand-ups while acting in Full House. What part of "acting" didn't these critics understand?

"In comedy circles, there’s a famous Saget story about the night his first daughter was born. After a very difficult birth, during which Sherri Saget and her baby almost died, a friend showed up to find Mr. Saget looking utterly destroyed, unshaven, unrecognizable, but holding his newborn. 'Oh my God, Bob, she’s beautiful,' the friend said. 'For a dollar, you can finger her,' Mr. Saget replied."

I absolutely hate going to the movies, so I won't be going to see it, but if it ever comes on cable or if I can rent it in a few months, count me in.

I really can't wait to see this. The best part is about it is the fact that comedians are letting us in on their little secret...looks really good and I can't wait.

Based on recommendations from friends, I've been trying to figure out if I should go see this movie. I watched the South Park clip from the movie a couple of days ago.

I'm pretty open, and generally not a conservative person. Crudeness doesn't really bother me. I like a good dirty joke. Usually, if there is some controversial movie or book I fall in line with those that enjoy it. But...

I didn't find the South Park clip funny at all. The joke is disgusting and not funny. There were a couple of minor places where I chuckled at the interaction between the South Park characters, but overall, I thought the content of the joke was so repulsive that it drowned out everything else. The ending was a bit humorous because of the delivery and the idea that well, it really isn't a joke after all, but by the time I got there I was pretty turned off to the whole thing, and the idea of telling a joke with no real punchline is hardly original.

I wonder if perhaps I've changed a bit since I've become a father, and would have found this funny if I didn't have young children at home. The mental images of "baby stuffed into her mom's vagina while the dad had anal sex with it" was the clincher for me. I had trouble getting past that part.

Still, I think I'm going to go see the movie. Too many friends have told me I would love it. If anything, I'll see it for its originality and perhaps with the hope that the commentaries in between the jokes shed some light on the the concept of humor in a culture.

I am curious, though, for those that liked the South Park clip. Can you put a finger on exactly what you found funny with it?

There are all sorts of things going on with the joke. One idea for me is.. in the movie, a few people made the point that what makes it funny is the juxtaposition of the crudeness of the body of the joke, and the clean punchline.

A twist on the joke is to have the body of the joke clean and with an offensive punchline. I actually found some of those variations funnier...

There was a joke going around 15 years ago with a clean build up, and a silly, vulgar punchline. It was known as The Clown Joke.
