What's With the Advertising?

Anyone else seeing the GIFs at the top of the forums occasionally? Did that just start today?

Interesting. I'm on the yellow skin - not sure if that's the difference or not.

Edit: Yep, switched to the default skin and the ads were there. But they're not on the yellow.

You can block them with the Adblock extension if you're using Firefox.

I am seeing the ads as well. They just appear sporadically. And to top it off, they are Flash ads.

I'm seeing it as well. I was asking myself if it was something with my computer... I'm going to download this Adblock extension...

Reference post #58 by Ryan. I think that is the explanation.

I'm guessing maybe this is what Ryan talked about when he said something not so good might start today in the Dynamic 2 thread?

Any idea how in the world advertising fixes the synchronization issue?

I see it now. Yes, snakesoutbreak!

Was Ryan hinting to the fact that he pissed them off so much they put ads on the forum? Not sure, does that even do anything? At least they are not annoying pop up ads.

If they stay as banners and aren't offensive and don't try and install spyware and don't slow loading the thread down while the browser waits for some rinky-dink ad server to get around to sending over the ad, I won't mind too much.

Of course, I'll give pretty good odds that at least one of those will happen on a regular basis...

And there we go. Board is much faster now that I've installed Adblock and turned off all the Gamespy ad URLs. Watching it say "waiting on something.ign.com" while I stare at a blank page is now a thing of the past. I'll live with ads that don't get in my way or slow me down, and these were starting to slow me down...

Using the default skin, these ads didn't bother me until one of them popped up a screen-covering flash thingie that I had to manually close. I hate that kind of crap!

Guess I'll be switching to some other skin. Adblock has had spotty performance for me, and has shut off other features I've wanted more than once (at other sites).

RyanS was saying in the FOxL chat the other day that Gamespy finally realized we weren't serving ads...

Now we are.

BTW, if this is an issue for folks, I'd really suggest it's time to tell Gamespy to take a long walk off a short pier and drown (either that or bite the southbound end of a northbound camel).. I've really had it with their crap, and this would be the straw that broke the camel's back

Ok, wake up Skydog wherever he is, it's time to go.

I will start the pledge drive by pledging $50/year to support the board OFF of GameAdSpy wherever we go.

I agree - if this is an issue for people, I'm ure we could drum up the necessary money to support this board elsewhere.
