Keepers and Set Pieces

What, really, is the benefit of having a keeper with any sort of set piece value? I've been thinking that, generally speaking, the level of keeper would be what matched against the opponents SP value. Is this wrong? Does having a keeper with some SP value actually help vs. the opps. SP taker?

I've been searching for SPs the last few weeks, trying to gauge market value, and have been a bit amazed at the high levels some people have trained keepers up to - I understand that it is a skill that trains all players on a roster, but still...

A keeper with set pieces will not help him defend a set piece. It will only help him convert on a set piece if he were given the opportunity.

One possibility of why this occurs is that goalkeeper trainers do not have to train stamina - well, not if they buy appropriately (ie, no midfielder under excellent stamina) - and therefore have 2 weeks available for offseason training (unless in qualification game). Set piece is as good a training as any in the offseason since, as you mentioned, every player trains regardless of playing status and it does not hurt form like stamina. Plus, as a goalkeeper trainer, you are likely to have very good defense and be involved in low scoring games so the occasional cheap goals from set piece comes in handy.

also, there is no pentalty in hattrick for the keeper taking the set pieces. ie, they dont have to worry about the keeper taking a pentalty kick or corner and getting back down the field in time before the other team can score.

My cousin has a magical SP goalie, scored like 10 goals in cup this season already. Though I guess it really doesn't matter wether its your goalie or whatever other player
