And Carpenter outduels Clemens. I can't recall seeing a pitcher as "on" as Carp is right now.

Don't worry Jeebs, there's always the wildcard.

ST. LOUIS -- Chris Carpenter stifled the Astros to become the National League's first 14-game winner as the Cardinals finished off a sweep of Houston with a 3-0 victory on Sunday.

Scott Rolen's RBI double gave the Cardinals the lead, and a two-base error by Astros first baseman Mike Lamb brought home the other two runs in a three-run St. Louis second. Otherwise, the Redbirds made little headway against Carpenter's fellow All-Star, Roger Clemens, who fell to 7-4 despite remaining atop the NL in ERA.

Larry Walker drew a one-out walk in the second for the Cards' first baserunner against Clemens, and Rolen worked a superb nine-pitch at-bat before doubling to right-center. So Taguchi beat out an infield hit and Mike Mahoney walked, bringing up Carpenter, and the pitcher hit a bouncer to first. Lamb's throw was off-target, allowing Rolen and Taguchi to score.

Carpenter didn't issue a walk over nine excellent and efficient innings. He has gone at least 7 2/3 in each of his last six starts, and has not allowed more than one run in any of those games. The Cardinals moved to a season-best 27 games over .500, maintaining their lead of 13 games over the second-place Cubs. The third-place Astros fell to 14 1/2 back in the National League Central.

Look on the bright side, Jeebs, at least you're still a game ahead of the 4th place Brewers in the DKBL!

At least we were able to rebound nicely and sweep the Pirates on the road...

Yeah yeah. Looks like the Braves will get you guys and we get the Pads, which isn't a bad thing.

Carpenter gave up a lot of runs again, which is disconcerting (moreso for the pending playoffs than for his CY Young candidacy).

Overall, I'm not thrilled with the way the Redbirds are playing, regardless of who we get to face. Some say that they are on cruise control and will "turn on the switch" in the playoffs. Still...
