Koren Robinson: How stupid can you be?

Apparently, Koren showed up for his one day DUI sentence drunk. It seems to me, any chance that he had of resurecting his career has now been shot.

Robinson back in trouble

MIKE SANDO; The News Tribune
Published: July 22nd, 2005 12:01 AM

Three days after pleading guilty to a DUI charge, former Seattle Seahawks receiver Koren Robinson was in jail Thursday for allegedly violating a court order to abstain from alcohol.
Kirkland Police accused Robinson of being intoxicated when he showed up Wednesday morning to serve a one-day jail term on the DUI conviction.

Police confirmed Thursday night that they were holding Robinson in jail on a $25,000 cash bond, and that Robinson has an Aug. 4 court date in Kirkland Municipal Court.

Robinson denied the allegation Thursday in Kirkland Municipal Court, his attorney said.

The attorney, Jon Scott Fox, explained that the Aug. 4 hearing is to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to support the allegation.

Two officers said they smelled alcohol on Robinson’s breath when he reported to jail.

If guilty, Robinson would likely face additional punishment. The DUI conviction carried a 365-day jail term, with all but one day suspended.

The Seahawks released Robinson last month following a series of off-field incidents.

Robinson, 25, was a first-round draft choice in 2001.

Sounds like he has a pretty serious drinking problem. Not sure if that makes him stupid; each person is entitled to their own opinion on that.

*sigh*

NC State has produced two first-round receivers in the past several years, Holt and Robinson. Guess which one State fans like and which one they disavow? (Actually, the disavowance of Robinson started the moment he bailed on the team after his junior year because he and Amato really didn't get along very well...)

This is true, but I also find it entertaining.

Though I am not very familiar with alcoholism (I was a college student, but that doesn't quite count), it would seem that it would be fairly simple for even the most die-hard alcoholic to make sure that he shows up for a DUI sentence sober.

Then again, I could have no idea what I'm talking about.

Speaking from experience, this is a very likely scenario for an alcoholic.

Then I definitely retract my statement about how easy the scenario would be.

Rome had a nice burn on Koren today on his show, made me laugh.

Vikings reach deal with WR Koren Robinson
Judd Zulgad and Kevin Seifert, Star Tribune
September 6, 2005 VIKE0906.NOTES

The agent for Koren Robinson said today that the wide receiver has reached an agreement in principle on a two-year contract with the Vikings.

Alvin Keels refused to give any financial details of the contract, but said he expects it to be signed Tuesday.

Keels said Robinson, the former Seattle Seahawks first-round draft pick, won't play in Sunday's regular-season opener against Tampa Bay, but he should be ready for Week 2, when the Vikings travel to Cincinnati.

Robinson, 25, sought treatment this summer for alcoholism and has a Sept. 14 court date stemming from a drunken driving conviction.

He was selected ninth overall by Seattle in the 2001 draft. His best season came in 2002, when he caught 78 passes for 1,240 yards. But the Seahawks released him in June after several off-field incidents, the latest a drunken driving stop in May in which he registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.19.

Robinson pleaded guilty July 18 and was sentenced to one day in jail with 364 days suspended, but the case was reopened when officers smelled alcohol on his breath when he arrived to serve his day in jail

-----
I like this plenty. Robinson is good friends with CB Brian Williams (both played at State) and there are plenty of other guys to help Robinson out over here (of course Culpepper come to mind immediately).

One of my brothers is a hardcore alcoholic and got himself in some mighty big trouble last week.

So yes, that scenario of showing up drunk to the DUI hearing was highly likely.

My bro's going to AA starting tomorrow though, so hopefully that'll help.

The original post in this thread reminds me of a story where Purnell "sweet pea" Whittaker showed up for court for something, and somehow when his wallet opened, he had cocaine on his person.

Does a fall/winter in Minneapolis sound like a good place for a recovering alcoholic?

As an alum, I do hope he does get better, but he made a lot of mistakes over the last several years. I would not be surprised if this doesn't work out for him. It may be his last chance (unless he somehow acquires the teflon reputation that Lawrence Phillips had for a bit).

Koren is the 5th or 6th WR on the Vikings, so he'll get a shot at cleaning up his act without a lot of pressure to perform this year. Worked out once with Cris Carter, so who knows?

Bitter about Tacoma? No... Bitter about the Mariners paying for Carl Everett and Jarrod Washburn? Hells yes.
