FM - What to do with Eddie Johnson?
I'm playing in my first year (2004) at FC Dallas. I end up finishing second in the Western Conference, 1 pt behind LA. In between the legs of my Western Conference semifinal against Colorado, Eddie Johnson talks to the media about how he feels that being with FC Dallas is inhibiting him from reaching his potential. So what should I do?
Johnson is currently contracted 'till 2007. Do I transfer list him? Make him available for loan? Keep him? Apprently in FM, MLS clubs don't have the 'offer player to club' option, so I would have to wait for clubs to make offers. |

Well, since he's under a relatively long-term contract, if you want to keep him for another year or so, its probably doable, assuming he doesn't take a huge drop in form or his teammates get pissed at him or something like that. At some point, though, I think you will definitely want to cash in on him. I would sell him by no later than the first half of the 2006 season, but probably beforehand if a good deal would be possible. Not being able to offer him to other clubs hurts since you can't really get a good grip on what teams would be willing to pay right now.

Same thing happened to me with Eddie, but thankfully I hadn't offered him a contract yet. When I did, he shut up.
My problem with FC Dallas is that I win the first 5 or 6 games, then I lose everything. Annoying. |

I play as NE. Twellman was unhappy and then Johnson announced he was in a fued with Kreis. I traded Twellman for Johnson straight up in the biggest trade in the history of the league.

So I finish up the season. I end up losing in the Western Conference final to Kansas City by penalties (Meola saved everything).
Johnson gets named MLS Rookie of the Year. I have five players in the starting 11 for MLS team of the year (Johnson was not one of them) and Scott Garlick wins MLS keeper of the year. Since it is the offseason, I decide to transfer list and make Johnson available for loan. It is now mid-December, no offers yet and Johnson skips a training session. His morale has also gone kaput. The owner gives me a transfer budget of $400k, which I guess is okay since it was a bit more than I had last year. Then I notice the Chicago Fire sign Stefan Ishizaki for $1.6 million. How the heck did Chicago get $1.6 million to spend? Not only that but then the next day, the Fire are able to bring Cory Gibbs back to the states for $56k. Rigged I tells ya. I wonder if Beasley wants to be back in the states... and PSV will accept a $400k offer... |

Advanced to mid-February and it looks like Eddie Johnson has changed his mind. I de-transferlist him and he is now happy to stay with the club.

Maybe he realized he didn't have any better options.
