HOF : Congratulations to the class of 2005

- Bennie Friedman
- Dan Marino
- Fritz Pollard
- Steve Young

(* 1st-year eligibles)

As you guys certainly know, Steve Young is my all-time favourite football player. So this makes it a very special day for me.
Congrats Steve on that fabulous career. 229 players in the Hall, only 27 were inducted on the 1st ballot...and you are one of them, amazing.

And let's not forget about Fritz Pollard, his induction is long overdue. His list of NFL accomplishments (his non pro-football accomplishments are even more impressive, but won't be listed here) are quite notable:

1919-26 - Played professionally for the Akron Indians - Akron became part of the American Professional Football Association in 1920.
- Akron won the first professional football championship in 1920 (unbeaten).
- Pollard was one of the first three African American players in early pro football; Pollard and Jim Thorpe were the major gate attractions.
- Player/coach at Akron - opened up the game with some of the formations used at Brown under E. N. Robinson '96.
- First African American head coach in NFL - Hammond Pros (Indiana).
- First African American quarterback in NFL - 1923.

Edit: this was taken from the Brown University press release relating to the induction:
http://brownbears.collegesports.com/...020505aaa.html

There are several other good articles (on nfl.com, & the LA Times, among others) written this weekend on Pollard...

Great Speach Mr Young.
There you are now, enshrined in the HALL of FAME for good, and forever now.
