Are we really to believe that Ramsey is a good Quarterback? I know I don't think so. The guy has the footwork of a man wearing cement shoes. He can't throw a pass with touch on it. Every throw less than 15 yards requires the receiver to break stride or lose balance. He holds onto the ball way too long and to top things off he makes horrible decisions when rushed.
Blame what or whoever you want, but expect more of the same from the Skins this year. I'm calling it now..... 6-10 ![]() |

Well, with the Broncos having your #1 pick next year, I'm really hoping for a nice 4-12 season. I doubt they'll be quite that bad, but I'd love to see a top ten pick.
This will be the only year that I'll ever cheer for the Cowboys vs. anyone. |

I think Ramsey really can be a good quarterback.. and I actually liked a bit of what I saw tonight from him and the offense as a whole, but maybe i'm strange..
that being said.. my expectations are VERY low this year...

I don't know why you'd believe that, I mean why the hell did they trade to get Jason Campbell if Ramsey is any good? Ramsey just doesn't seem to have any pocket presence, and takes a ton of hits. He's no less mobile than Brady (and quite frankly... that's all you need) he just doesn't have the sense of space around him. And teams can just tee-up the blitz because they know exactly where he'll be. I don't think anyone wants you to believe that Ramsey is good, the team basically told you he wasn't, and Joe Gibbs has clearly entered into second-term Reagan territory when it comes to sheer glazeability. Sigh, long fricking year boys...

Ramsey looked awful (he looked god-awful last preason too, but played much better once he finally started in the regular season.
Problem is, Brunnell is not the answer either, and Campbell is not ready yet. I do agree with the annoucer though that Brunnell threw several passes harder in pre-season than he did all of last year. Pretty much have to stick with Ramsey no matter what IMO and see what happens. I don't expect a good season though.. |

I'm starting to think that there might be a sort of "Redskins effect" in place. Guys who do well elseshere some to Washington, and see their performance decline. Guys who leave Washington and go elsewhere see their performance suddely spike. (This may well only apply to the offense) If Carolina suddenly gets big things out of Rod Gardner this year, this will reinforce the idea.
I'm not a fan, but I do hear a lot of their coverage locally -- so I "follow" the team to some degree. What I root for with the Redskins is that they alternate wins and losses, as it's hilarious to hear the legions of faithful talk about how great the team is after every win, and how hopeless the situation is after every loss. If they go 3-13, that woudl be too boring and obvious -- winning about every other game, crashing at the end, and ending up at 7-9 would be ideal. |

The funny thing is, is that you can use that same theory on most sports in this area. Look at the Caps (Jagr), the O's (Sosa), the Bullets (Webber or Jordan). Not too sure of my examples and I know there are many more and some will disagree, but I have seen this theory all my life, especially with this area.

I'm in kind of the same boat as it's impossible to be in DC and not constantly be hearing about the Skins. There are times when I want them to win because I think it will alleviate the constant whine-fest on the airwaves or at the office, but you're right on with your assessment as that's simply replaced by an orgy of optimistic blow-harding after victories. I don't think they're a bad team, but I think they have an attitude problem. Not necessarily a bad attitude in the TO sense of the word, but they're gunshy, they've had a crappy couple of years, and a fairly high profile level of embarassment, and the confidence just isn't there. I think a lot of people thought Gibbs might be able to fix that, but if anything, his struggles last year and the team looking lost at times only made things worse. |

I really think you can say this of most sports fans and how they cheer their teams. In Denver, the Broncos dominate the sports talk dial. The Avs come close on occasion, but I'd guess 3/4 of all sports talk all year has to do with the Broncos. I don't even have to wait for the regular season to start up. This morning Bradlee Van Pelt is being looked at as a God who will become the next Elway because he looked good for a couple of quarters against the Texans second team defense. Likewise, people are screaming for Ron Dayne to be the starter at running back after he had a good game. (Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell looked HORRIBLE) Once the season starts, this type of attitude will be amplified times twenty. (if Buc happens to be reading this thread, I'm sure he's nodding in agreement) |

I actually think the Skins might be turning the corner.
For all the complaints about them being underachievers over the years, I was delighted with how well their defense played all of last year - without the benefit of their two best defensive players from the previous season (Champ Bailey and Lavar). Gregg Williams is an unbelievable coach and the job he did with the guys he had was kind of lost in the whole "OMFG GIBBS IS GOD BUT Y IS HE FLAILING!??@@!" theme that dominated the airwaves last season. I think Gibbs has shown over his career that he is good at adapting and I can only hope that he took the lessons of last season, particularly with respect to the offense and game management, and applies them to this year. There is no denying the team has a good amount of talent on offense - Portis, Samuels, Jansen, Moss, Rabach are all pro-bowl-caliber players. Obviously most everything hinges on Ramsey. I am not ready to give up on him yet - the guy has only been in the league for 3 seasons and hasn't exactly had the benefit of cohesion working for him. I do think his FOF Read Defense rating is all greens and maybe 5 reds, but hopefully that is something that improves. This team is a lot different from a few seasons ago where you had a bunch of high-priced band-aid vets brought in for a dog-and-pony show. Gregg Williams and Joe Gibbs are too old school for that and I think with one season together under their belt, things should start looking up.

This pretty much sums up my feelings.. Although I'm relatively worried about how well the combo of Harris/Rodgers will replace Smoot this year... besides that, I'm pretty happy with the team.. I think next year could be a Wild Card year...
