sim idea for PC - would it work?
a cop's life
random scenario's minimal graphics (top down like GTA original) but tons of information and happenings, with a choose your own direction feel. Perhaps even checking the most mundane things like turning in your paperwork at the end of the night to the sarge. Add-ons would be specializing on the force, ie. negotiator, CSI, etc. would this work?

Well I know I would potentially be interested in something like this. I always loved the old Police Quest series.

Where did all the brown in my coffee go?
I played that game when I was about eight years old and still remember that line. |

Huh, it could very well work. At least the concept would be good enough for me to at least try it out. This would be a neat game if you can try to simulate the cop's lifetime and when you retire, you can get an overall score based on a number of parameters (rank, difficulty of missions, etc). It would be also be neat to go from being a cop to running your own task force as you get up in your later years. Just throwing stuff out there, but yes, it would be interesting.

so what do you do with an Idea like this? give it Maximus (j/k --- no offense) I wonder why this hasn't been done. I think it might even be able to be easy considering minimal time needs to be spent on the graphics, the most time would need to be spent on the scenarios (thousands perhaps), the career ladder, the city layout...
how would the action take place? via text? point and click? on a zoom in (after you pull a car over? just thinknig out loud here.

x = int (10*rnd(1))+1
if x >5 then msgbox "You retired as a cop and opened a Coffee Beanery." else msgbox "You were shot by a punk while confiscating a bottle of Scope from his mother." endif Ok...that's all for me.

This sounds like an interesting idea... Perhaps you could do some stuff like using clues to find methlabs and interviewing people to find out information about drug rings. You could have ratings like a "good cop/bad cop" rating that shows what type of interrogation style you use... perhaps also there could be ratings for the different types of weapons policemen use, which might limit your policeman's usefullness in certain situations. Interesting concept. You'd have to be careful to keep things far from mundane everyday activities, though. |

nope, you jumped to an expansion pack. The filing paperwork, the wrapping up of a call, the random call nature ALL the stuff of being a frosh out of the acadmey is KEY. See when you start out you wouldnt be getting clues, and shit, youd be getting a call over the radio saying, "10-42 at XXYYZZ st." and you gotta go to a house alarm sounding, etc. etc. then write it up, perhaps make that automated and then you have to sign off, so maybe you have to check that the automated paperwork is right and then sign off on it. If you turn in bad paperwork it could come back to haunt you later. NOW, it seems you picked up on expansion one. After so many years of being a beat cop you can apply to be an investigator and then there is that path, but in the meantime, when the game starts out you show up to roll call, get the info. for the day, some special items that may randomly happen like one guy armed and Dangerous and then you go ride your beat, pull over speeders (who randomly could perhaps turn into more), stop for food and talk to Mihab the Indian at the Jiffy store....etc. etc. You can't jump too far, its the life that is the game, and that gets you emotionally attached to the character thereby being crushed if you get killed OR elated if you earn a commendation and someday apply to be K-9 where you would take your dog to training, etc. etc. etc. you have to be patient, with this game.....It would remind me a bit of a more advanced, Police oriented "Alter Ego for the C-64"...remember that?
