NFL: RIP Thomas Herrion

Late Night with Bob Valvano reports he has passed away. He was an offensive linement for the 49ers who collapsed in the lockerroom after the game vs Denver tonight.

Looking for link.

DENVER -- San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Thomas Herrion collapsed in the locker room after Saturday night's game against Denver and was taken to the hospital.

Emergency workers were performing CPR on the lineman as he was being placed in an ambulance.

Players said coach Mike Nolan had just finished his postgame meeting with them when Herrion collapsed.

"As players, we all stood back, took one knee and prayed for Thomas," defensive end Bryant Young said.

Nolan said he had no comments about the game, a 26-21 loss to the Broncos.

"There are more important things on our mind than the game," he said. "Right now, our thoughts and prayers are with Thomas Herrion."

The lineman was on the field for San Francisco's 14-play, 91-yard drive that ended with a touchdown with 2 seconds left in the game.

Herrion, a first-year player with the 49ers, played college ball at Utah and spent part of last season on the San Francisco and Dallas practice squads and also played this season with the Hamburg Sea Dogs of NFL Europe.

I was listening to the KNBR broadcast over the net and it was real sudden. There was no post-game with the coaches or players (and rightly so), the locker room just went into shut down with no non-team personnel allowed in. You could hear the siren of the ambulance leaving in the background, it was eerie. The commentary team were trying to convey how serious it was without announcing anything specific before the team authorised them too and they were shocked.

Poor kid was living the dream.

Very sad indeed. Heard it last night on Jimmy V. show. Sawe him play last week, he had a
rough time committing penalties. Rest in Peace.

Damn. Just...damn. 23 freakin' years old. Most of us are older than that kid.

And on a perhaps innappropriate-at-this-time-but-will-be-brought-up-eventually-note... Here comes another round of inquiries/alterations/politicies/etc regarding training regimins and physiotherapy, etc, etc, etc.

Its really amazing how this stuff happens (unexplained deaths).

I think the best approach to take regarding your second subject would just to ignore the guy completely.

Ignore what? The player's death?

This isn't the thread for this Lidstrom. You can post your idealogy fine on this board, but not in a thread like this.

Vote Lidstrom

Now may be the time to implement a formal blackballing system.

Sorry if my original post wasn't that clear. I was referring to ignoring Lindstrom.

I thought I was posting statements and questions directly related to a statement in the original article. I have attempted to modify them due to popular demand.

Yeah, really sad situation, as it is whenever a player dies. I remember hearing about him collapsing last night. I assumed he would pull through, but then I woke up this morning and saw in the paper that he had died. ESPN said he was working on his masters and wanted to be a schoolteacher in his hometown....man...

So sad. He's only months older than I am. Makes you realize how precious life is and how it can end at any time. He seemed like a real good guy. His goal was to make a team and then buy his mom a nice house.

The coroner's office in Denver performed an autopsy Sunday, but said no cause of death could be determined until toxicology tests were performed. The tests usually take about three to six weeks.

Yeah I've been reading here and there on it. I'm a 49er fan but even if I wasn't...it's still horrible news. RIP buddy, you went out like a champ.
