3rd Time's The Charm?

Well, today, 31 August 2005, is the last day of the 8th month that I've been unemployed. As most of you probably know, I finished my MS in Aerospace Engineering in December, 2004, so for the entirety of 2005 I've been unemployed. Admittedly, for the first few months I really wasn't searching in earnest for a job--I was instead trying to relax and rehabilitate my ankle. Now, though, this joblessness is getting old (as is the not qualifying for unemployment).

There is one company I'd love to work for. A few of my friends work there, it's local enough to my parents' house (and even better, the boat!), and the work they do is interesting. Needless to say, I've interviewed with them twice to no avail so far. The first time, the director for the group loved me, as did the guy my friend said I "needed to impress" but the actual project people wanted someone with more experience. Boohoo, but I got good feedback. The second time, I interviewed with a different group within the company and though I tried to be interested in what they were doing, in reality I couldn't believe that people got paid to do that kind of useless work.

On a whim, I emailed the group director that liked me yesterday, sending him an updated copy of my resume and a letter of interest. I guess it was good that I did, as I've now got an interview set up for Tuesday 6 September.

In general, that's good, but for one of the people I'm supposed to talk to, he said, "We'll give you the details of the job when we see you." This scares me to no end. Are they trying to see how well I think on my feet (very well, I'd think, given that the guy I needed to impress on the first time around gave me an impromptu quiz of things that could go wrong and how I'd fix them--and I nailed them all)? Or what else might it be?

Also, I'd appreciate any good vibes and interview advice y'all could send my way. I think it's a good sign that this guy is trying to bring me in, but I want everything to go perfect..or better. Thanks in advance.

/tk

The Army won't have me.
I'd never pass an entry physical, much less Basic. (See http://www.flickr.com/photos/terpkristin/sets/827968/ for more info)

More than likely, you'll find a job just in the 'nick of time'.

Here in California, when I got laid off back in April of '03, I was pretty much on unemployment until January of '04. I pretty much used up my entire unemployment period (plus the extension) to the very last check.

Close call, and my friends are still impressed that I managed to eek every cent out of it. Shortly after the last check came through, I finally nailed this dead end job that I've been stuck with since then.

(Please shoot me.)

That's horrible. Why were you walking around a construction site barefoot?

It sounds as if you're interested in this company. I'd do some additional research to see how well you fit in, like current projects they have, past employees they've hired, etc. Then you can use that in your interview.
