NCAA Football - Week 1

I know there are a couple threads already (GO GO RUTGERS) but I though a central thread for this weekend's game might be a good idea.

My only contribution is: TCU 7 - OU 0

Go Horny Frogs!

Many of you know how much I hate upstarts/underdogs, and love the Dawgs. Those two things combined could give me untold glee today when the Dawgs put Boise State in their place.

TCU 10 - OU 0

Paul Thompson will need to learn how to pass if the Sooners want to do anything this year. His stats aren't horrible, but that's because the receivers have made good adjustments on the completions so far.

Isn't it fun when for a fleeting second, we think it's possible for a top-ten power to lose a home game to a mid-major? We get about one of these every week every September.

It really is a lot of fun. Now I'm sure the Oklahoma machine will wake up and absolutely steam-roll them.

Yep, indeed. That fleeting second is great until the power wakes up. Though OU really looks crappy.

Someone needs to adjust the sliders in the Ball St - Iowa game. 49-0 in the second quarter

I love those (this) type of game. That is until you see the turning point occur...i.e. TCU getting in position for a half ending field goal only to have the shotgun snap sail over the QB's head. OU will either get a chance for a hail mary or a field goal of their own now.

I'm in big 10 country so I dont get that game on tv, but what happened to Adrian Peterson? He seriously has 9 carries for 9 yards?

If Bomar continues to play well, is there a chance that he is more likely to become the starter at OU?

Sure, you can practice all you want, and scrimmage, but you just don't know how well your new QB is gonna do until he faces real gameday pressure. Thompson just hasn't really impressed me the first half. Bomar came out with fire in his eyes to perform, and it will be interesting to see if he plays well in the second half...

I know there are a lot of Texas fans around here- so any thoughts on the UL Lafayette - Texas game? Basically the way I see it, we (UL-Laf) will get kicked horribly, but wouldn't it be nice if the game was close?

TCU should be up by at least 17 now.

The upstart team knocking off a top ten power happens at least once every week in September. But this is one of those games where you are REALLY starting to question if the team at home is really a top 10 team.

OU hasn't just looked sluggish or disinterested. They look horrible. The offensive line is pathetic, the QB's have been poor (though Bomar has looked better than Thompson), and the secondary just looks lost.

This may be the year Texas knocks them off. . .

OU has came out and played very vanilla football so far. It understandable though with a QB that hasnt started. Of course TCU has loaded the box with a 4-2-5 defense, which they are playing like a 4-4. Its hard to run with 9 guys in the box, and until OU starts hitting the deep ball, and spreads this defense out, Peterson just isn't going to get it done.

OU came out passing and when TCU figured out that Thompson was no threat through the air, they loaded up to stop Peterson. It's worked so far.

Yeah, tough day so far in Oklahoma. I know these guys are all young, but somebody has to step up. I disagree with TroyF in a sense. They don't look good, but I think it is because they look sluggish and disinterested.

All the question marks - QB, O-line, WR, pass rush, secondary - can be answered in the negative right now. And if that doesn't change, it's going to be a long year in Norman.

I sure hope cthomer's right because I'm desperately waiting for someone to wake up.

Yep...not getting another first half score is going to bite them later on when OU's depth starts to make a difference. The Sooners will likely end up putting at least 20 on the board, so that mean the Frogs need a minimum of two more scores to stay in the game.

Maybe it's because of mediocre pass rush and secondary play from Oklahoma, but I'm impressed with TCU's QB. He makes good decisions, doesn't hold the ball too long, and is generally accurate.

I don't know much about TCU, but he looks solid.

Edit: Removed DOLA as VPI squeezed in there.

Yeah, you ain't kidding! OU looks like crap against TCU, I can't imagine them knocking off Texas, unless they turn it on in the 2nd half and just 'wake up' and play like they were expected to do.

The way they are playing today, they easily could end the season unranked!

I'll always give the edge to OU until Texas beats them. No matter how horrible OU looks and how great Texas looks.

That said, I'm not impressed at all with OU right now. They need to get something going here and quick.

In other games, Wisconsin/Bowling Green is just plain nuts to watch and now I can say that I've seen a FB hurdle a defender and run 80 yards for a TD. (Rutgers)

It's also odd to see Ohio State in a four WR set. Gotta love opening day.

CU/CSU in a little over an hour.

Whats with Wisconsin's uniforms? Are they just a one-day thing

Jacobs (quarterback) of Bowling Green is just amazing to watch.

Quick dola, OU has come out fired up and is running the ball down TCU's throats now.

Here is the turning point. Drives like this are where upsets are made and broken. Another OU turnover/missed field goal/4th down miss will put OU in big trouble. A TD scamper by AP and they are the ones in deep.

edit: No sooner do I hit the submit button than AP is running free into the end zone. An OU defense three and out stop and I may start concerning myself more with that wild Wisconsin/Bowling Green game.

I saw that hurdle run too. 235 pounds of athleticism and speed in that fullback.

One of the gutsier calls I've seen in awhile. Wisconsin takes a 42-35 lead to start the second half. Bowling Green gets stuffed and face a 4th and 8 from the 22. They call a fake punt and convert it.

Impressive. Not so impressive. . . they get sacked three straight times and are forced to punt on a 4th and 20+ after the fake punt. Ouch.

TCU couldn't get the punt off and that should be that. I'm now on my way out the door to drive to Raleigh for tomorrow night's VT/NCSU game.

Not good for OU to have Peterson go down. Hopefully he just twisted his ankle, but it looked severe.

Tennessee struggling badly now against a very game UAB.
17-10 UT, 4min left, UAB facing 4th & 7 from the UT 12.

Ainge has looked awful, Claussen clearly much better of the two today, but Vols held scoreless in the 2nd half.

Wow, TCU up 7 with 4:00 to play. And OU just had one of those moments that was supposed to happen to top teams, where a receiver failed to turn for the pass and it bounced into the air for an OU INT, and OU turned it BACK over.

Tennessee hangs on to win 17-10.
Defended the 4th down try by UAB tipping away a pass into the end zone, faced 3rd & long themselves but put it away with a 50 yd Claussen pass when the UAB DB fell down (injuring himself in the process, enough to be taken off on the little handcart thing)

I hate ABC already this season. This is a record for me, usually I don't hate them until the middle of September.

We have two ABC stations in the area, and both switched off of Oklahoma to the start of Boston College/BYU. I can understand the Boston station doing this, but not the Manchester, NH station.
