Katamari Damacy

This is definately one of the most innovative games I have played in a long time. The premise of this game casts you as a prince to a ruler of the cosmo. He accidently wiped out all the starts, and left it up to you to create new ones by rolling around earth and picking up objects.

The gameplay is simple. You roll around picking up objects. The bigger you get, the bigger objects you can pick up. no buttons are used at all during the game. You only use the analog sticks to control your ball. Works out very well, and I found it pretty easy on my hands.

This game is a blast, but I don't know if I could reccomend buying it. I borrowed it from a friend. The only problem is the mainly storyline is short.
I finished all of the missions in about 5 hours of play. And there was only one mission that I even had to replay. Expect to spend alot of time getting 100% on the side quests though.

The only other problem is there is only one map. This isn't a problem for the first 5 or 6 stages. But once you get big enough to start rolling up houses and cars, the levels look the same for the last 3-4 levels. I understand why the did that though, the amount of objects in the game when you get large is staggering, and it would have been a pain to create a new city for some of those levels.

I cannot comment on the 2player aspect, since I didnt get a chance to try that.

This game is definately worth the experience though. The last level is awesome, when you get large enough to pick up everything on the map. And the replayability might be okay, if you wanted to see how much larger you could make each star. I am definately going to check out the sequel one day.

There are three maps right? The house, the town and the world.

I too think the game is a blast. It's kind of surreal to start with a ball that is as big as mouse and end up picking up buildings by the end of the level. It's $20 too, so if you have a PS2 there's no reason not to give it a try.

Yes, I think there was three general maps. But on some of the levels the map was the same, but the objects on the map's where greatly different.

Isn't this the game where people in real life were having difficulty differentiating between fantasy and reality? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could've sworn there was an article awhile ago, where people who were driving started to think they were playing the game, and were running over mailboxes or something.

Not to say that it's a bad game or anything, but I know I heard something like that happening awhile ago.

I thought some of the constellation maps where actually completely different? Been a while since I played though, but I thought there were more than 3 maps.

Great game though, one of the best I've played in a long time, and one I was able to get a lot of people hooked on who didn't usually play games. Just a great, fun, laid back, original game. If you have a PS2, buy it. Lets not forget to mention the soundtrack, which is one of the best around. I love it.

I can't wait for the sequel.

Calis: The constellation maps have different items, but I believe they are the same basic maps, no? I didn't really pay enough attention when I was playing.

In addition to the unique gameplay, I really like the soundtrack and warped humor.
