Horrible sounds at the U.S. Open

For some unknown reason, I'm watching the tennis U.S. Open on the USA channel.

I remember the women making random grunting noises in the past, but these two guys are playing and it sounds like hardcore porn. It's horrifying.

Is this a new thing?

I think that there are improved sounds coming from the courts these days, either better microphones or placement closer to the court.

Either way, if you were watching the match between Coria and Ginepri, they went to 5 sets, so both were tired, so that might also explain it...

But these sounds weren't just tired grunts, they were literally like "Uhhhhhnnnnnnnnnn" and "Oooohhhhhhhhhhh".

They really need to get rid of the mics, because that's not the kind of thing I want to hear when watching two men (or women really) play sports.

It's an intimidation thing to their opponents, that's why a lot of them do it. The noise is sorta natural and you can't really help it, in a lot of cases..and that's the truth.

But...the women shriek and that's nothing more than distracting gamesmanship.
