FOF QB Dilemma

Ok, FOF 2004 got me again... I just started a career with the Cards, to see if I can bring 'em the title...

4-12 the first 2 seasons.

In this year's draft, I see this guy:

Really looks like a beast, and a once-in-a-lifetime type of player...

Last year, I drafted this guy:

Very good, and already developed at 64/75.

Given the fact that the rookie incredibly fell to the 4th pick (mine), what would you do? I draft him, and keep both for 1-2 seasons? Or I pass? Or, again, draft him and trade the other one?

Depends on your style of play. If you are playing "all out" then there's little doubt in my mind that you'd eventually be able to turn over one of those two QBs for at least a couple of #1 picks, even in the last year of his contract.

I wouldn't want to take the cap hit of trading the other one. Trade the pick away if there's no one else you want at 1(4).

QBs need an O-Line, WRs, and a running game. Is there no one else you can pick up that would help your team out?

Mario did go to a good university, but his relatively low current rating makes him a backup at best for the first year or two. Also, his lack of known formations will tend to limit the offense even further until he can bring his intelligence into play. I like him in the middle of round 1, but at 1(4), the price is stiff.

I'd trade down or find some other need to fill.

I'd be looking at a trade down.

As a side note, that has to be one of the lowest 40 times I have ever seen for a QB, not even many running backs have times in that neighbourhood.

Nice problem to have there, I'm hunting for a speedy and good passing QB right now in my FOF game. And not to thread jack, but am I missing something about trading draft picks? I can only get the computer to take picks with players, even during the draft. I thouht this had been changed.

I think you just need to offer an enticing offer to do picks-for-picks... I know in my last FOF2k5 game I did it.

your current QB is better. besides, why take a long-ball QB that isn't too good at throwing the long ball.

Both QBs look good, though, but even so, I would probably take your current QB if both were available in a draft.

There are no decisions to be made in single player lol. I'd take both qb's, though IRL, I doubt it happens very often.

Take McDermott, attempt to make him a RB or WR, just to see what would happen...with those scores, he might be a stud at either position.

Hey thanks everyone for the input!

So... I picked him. He was just too good to pass up, in my opinion, and there weren't players worth of the 4th pick overall. I already traded down in that draft.
After 1 year of riding the pine...

I didn't think of changing his position, that was probably a good idea, but I had to do it before the first training camp.

We went 9-7 for the season, and we earned a wildcard spot. The other QB didn't miss a single snap, and is now rated at 78/78. Mario is rated 28/82. Next year, I have to decide what to do of one of the two. Since I'm playing "all out", I'll probably end up trading one...

id try to trade Mario soon, his loyalty is 0.

I like the other QB anyways, and you can nickname him, Wig-nasty.

I'm using the Cardinals as well and getting close to that playoff spot. So far in two seasons I was 7-9 and 8-8. Next year should be a good one for us. The 49ers have had the first draft pick two years in a row and now sit atop the division at 9-7 this year.

I'd have to say, FOF 2004 is a game that never gets old. I might not play it for a week or two, but then I'm back at it night after night.

Back to your question, I would have drafted him and then traded him to a team needing a QB for a position you need, IE a young stud OL or gamebreaking LB or WR.

Under the current roster by yabanci, i find myself signing david Carr, or Brees, in nearly every career, and then going on to win about 3-4 bowls, even with the Cardinals. Qb's like this dropping to 1(4) is a pretty good reason. The other day i had a 85 potential QB drop to about 17th overall, and i took 2 70+ qb's in the 7th round. Of course both of those guys ended up flopping, still, i dont think 70 range qb's should drop out of the first/high second. Anyways, I'd probably play the first guy until his deal is up, keep the second one around, maybe he'll sign a smaller contract and you can keep him on the cheap for 3-4 years after the first one leaves. The first one, i'd franchise, and move for a couple #1's.

I'm thinking holding onto the newest guy is a BIG waste of cap space...at around $4 million for a backup QB is way too much. He's not going to develop sitting on the bench...so, I'd deal him ASAP and put that cap space to good use.

I wouldn't have drafted him in the first place and I would have traded the pick for picks. But since he did draft him, he'll eat the cap regardless of whether he trades him or not. Since he drafted him, I'd hold onto him for another year, since you never know when a catastrophic injury will occur.

What he means is that the bonus money is already spent, regardless of whether the guy is on the roster or not.

Angry

I just got back to this career and I was wondering what to do with the 2 guys, and I finally decide to go with Mario, and trade Wigdzinski. A pretty good trade actually (1st,2nd,1st,1st) but I think fair for a 78/78 3rd year player. Also, with this trade I was able to pick a super-stud DE in the draft, role where my team was weak.
So, everything's fine... Until the season starts. We suck bad going 2-8 in the first 10 games, but Mario is developing very fast at 48/82.
But wait: ruptured adductor muscle. Full strength: next season, obviously.
We finished 5-11, 4 win less than last year.

Mario is now rated at 30/60, which is a good potential, but not the elite player he could have been.

Meanwhile, Wigdzinski is now an 88/88 player, simply the best QB in the league for years to come I think, and very durable.

Talk about bad decisions...

that's why i woulda held on to both for a couple years until you were forced to trade one, a la Brees and Rivers (although we've yet to see how Rivers will work out). Never can tell when you'll need a stud-QB.

If he's not good enough for Rod Smith, he's not good enough for me. Good trade. Cowboy up.

Maybe I can change the title of the thread to: I got a bust QB...
