Barbados?

Anyone ever been there? After first considering Costa Rica, the little lady and I are now thinking about going to St James for our honeymoon...specifically the Fairmont Royal Pavilion Resort . The resort looks amazing, but I would like to know more about the island itself...what is there to do there for fun, what restaurants are good, what kind of shopping does the island have?

Anyone have any firsthand experience? I trust you guys more than I do anonymous websites...

What kind of stuff are you looking to do (besides you know.....), and when are you going? The Fairmont is a pretty ritzy chain, so it should be very nice. I know the Ritz Carlton has a property on St. Thomas. Also, if you want a "guide of some sort" for hotels/resorts, these may help:

http://www.travelandleisure.com/worl...t=hotelscabeba, and http://www.lhw.com/.

Do you want information on Barbados or St. Thomas?

Been there. Went to the caves, also to some nature park in the center of the island. Had some fun. (was on "Field Experience" while I was an undergrad in college (spend spring break in Barbados))

I believe we stayed in Holetown. Also went to Oistins (which was having some festival while we were there).

Cabo for our honeymoon too. I highly recommend it. It's really awesome to be able to be at your destination in just a couple hours as well. You're so darn tired after the wedding that flying for 10 hours is NOT a fun thing. Just a short hop to Cabo.

edit: We stayed at the Westin. Also lovely.

That's one stunning resort. The restaurants look fanastic. Pretty pricey?

Don't swim in the water near the Malibu Rum distillery. You're hair will smell like some freaky rum cocktail for days afterwards.

Is that a bad thing?

If you like hot sauce, Barbados has the best in the world, IMO. Its on every table in every restaurant. Slather some on a flying fish sandwich, accompany with an ice cold Caribe beer, and life is good.

I've been there dozens of times in various privateering vessels. Check out this thread for details.
