Anyone Play WSOP Game Yet

Just wondering if anyone has tried the new WSOP video game and if it's worth the $$. My biggest concern is quality of gameplay and the AI. Is it challenging enough?

Ditto Northwood's comment. They have the POKI AI system in 'Stacked'. It's a very good AI that has been in a computer simulation for several years. It's extremely good and the players 'change gears' and constantly react to changes in your own game.

I read an interview with Negraneau about his game and was very intrigued by it. I think I'll wait and see how that pans out.

A review I read on ign of the WSOP game said the AI was atrocious. Definitely a pass.

Unfortunately, I bought the WSOP game, and it crashes on my machine. The only reason I'm keeping it is if I travel with my wife sometime in the future. We could play it on her laptop, perhaps. The console versions appeared to have a create-a-player feature which looked somewhat interesting to me, but the PC version only lets you select between 4 or 6 pictures. You can't adjust the appearance of the players. Anyway, I had bought the XBox version first, but my machine couldn't read the disc, so I exchanged it for another copy. The same thing happened. I ended up just returning it to the store. I got the PC version a couple of weeks later and discovered the crashes there.

If Stacked is really coming out this week or next, I'll get that. If it's not going to be out for several weeks, I'll probably get the World Poker Tour game just to keep me occupied.

Most of the poker games coming out now are complete crap. The only two decently reviewed ones are the Turbo Poker versions made by Wilson and Poker Academy from University of Alberta. The U of A product is the one being incorporated into the Negraneau game.

As to horrible AI, the Moneymaker WSOP game didn't even rank hands properly. For example, when two pair came on the board that didn't help anyone's hand, the AI gave me the win with my Queen kicker over my opponent's Ace kicker.

I'm assuming you didn't know that the AI engine in Turbo Poker is the same engine being implemented in STACKED. It's an extremely solid engine. That's why most have great hope for this game. AI is crucial in a poker game and the Poki AI system is by far the best available.

I picked up WSOP for the PSP. It was an ok time killer for awhile, but it grows old, quick.

The IGN guy was correct. It's almost like a lottery. There is no real strategy involved. Example for me:

I get dealt a pair of aces. The computer player (he has 67k in chips, I have 75k) He raises 15k, I go all in, he calls.

Cards are flipped over. . . he has 2c 8s

He called 67k with a 2 and an 8. The worst part? He won. The flop comes out 9, 10, j, the turn is an A, the river is a 7 and I'm down to 8k in chips with him hitting a miracle draw.

If you Google POKI, it takes you right to UofA site and the Poker Academy.
