FM - Giuseppe Rossi
Saw this kid in my FM career and saw he was born in New Jersey but also is Italian. Not sure when he played for the U-21 team for Italy, but Im assuming it happened already in real life? In game at least, he look slike a stud.

and Rooney praises Rossi Wayne Rooney believes that his Manchester United teammate Giuseppe Rossi has what it takes to reach the top. The former Parma youth player, poached by the Red Devils as he was unable to sign a professional contract with the Gialloblu, has been in red hot form for the United reserves in the last two seasons. And England star Rooney has backed Rossi to successfully make the step up to the first team. I think he's got a great chance, said Rooney. He has got a great touch and is a natural finisher. more even! http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/archives..._needs_an.html What does Giuseppe Rossi have to do to get a game in the first team? The brilliant little Italian-American has scored four goals in a week for the stiffs and still can't get a look-in at a higher level. This at a time when United have generally been struggling to score and create goals. Regular reserves watchers will know that Rant's young player of the year 2004-5 has been developing at a rapid rate since joining United in the summer of 2004. So much so in fact that his continued omission from the first team picture has become something of an anathema. Indeed Rossi's touch, vision, speed, deceptively powerful shot and eye for goal is being wasted at reserve team level and could prove something of a surprise package in the Premiership. Of course, Rossi did see some first team action in the early part of the season - starring in a number of pre-season friendlies and touring Asia with the main squad. He did well in those pre-season matches, although was a touch disappointing with his one brief substitute spell earlier this season. The worry is that reserve team level simply isn't enough of a test for young Giuseppe any longer and his development may be stifled. The lack of competitive matches, the slower pace and increasingly youthful nature of reserve team football can see careers of promising players stagnate if they don't move on. Indeed, Rossi is progressing so well that a spell on loan - in the Premiership or Championship - is prefereable to him competing against Everton Reserves and the like week in, week out. He's not cap-tied to Italy, some of the Yanks Abroad guys are hoping that he'll get fed up with waiting for an Italian spot, and will accept playing for the USA.

He's played U-19 for Italy. Is that rule still in effect where someone who has not earned a cap with the full national team can switch or was that only temporary and is now gone?

I believe U-21/Main Team only, but it might just be national team only

I don't think that is right... Wales lost Owen Hargreaves to England when he got an under 21 cap, and have also "officially" lost Cardiff striker Cameron Jerome after he came on for England under 21's on the weekend.
As far as I am aware it's under 21 or full team cap and you are stuck with that country. I believe this is also how FM deals with it. Marc? |

its U-21 as well, as Peter philipiakos is a greek-american and has repeatedly turned down offers to play for the greek U-21 so that he can play for america eventually whenever he is called up from his olympiakos squad

No, only the full national side is covered, unless FIFA counts U-21 as "A" international (which I do not believe to be the case). However, the change of nationality is only allowed up until the 21st birthday, so the player must be U-21 to be able to execute a switch.
The PDF with the relevant FIFA regulations is located here, towards the end: http://www.fifa.com/documents/static..._08_2004_E.pdf

That really surprises me. If that is the case, common wisdom and the media in this country are very wrong. Quote:

The last coached loved him and he looked like he was about to become a starter when he got fired...the new coach isnt a fan and peter has lost all playing time...and basically arena wont call up players not playing becuase he doesnt believe they have the form...im pretty sure he could still get a call from the US-U21, but they wont as they like taking mostly the talent from brandenton

Is there a U.S. U-21? It does not have an age-group competition in FIFA and by that point the players are either pros or in college, so there would be little point. (In Europe, I think there are Euro championships for off-FIFA age groups.)

Rossi scored the third goal for Man Utd this afternoon, looks like he's finally getting his chance with the full team.
