Orel Hershiser is going to interview for the managerial position on Monday.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2200123

My question is twofold.

1) Would you want him as manager?
2) Does the presence of DePodesta influence that at all? i.e. "Yes, but not until DePo is gone," or "No, I'd want him/not want him to manage the team either way."

I'd love to see him manage the club, but my fear is that anybody in that office is going to suffer for whatever bad decisions DePodesta makes during his tenure, and I'd hate for Hershiser to get the job and end up only keeping it for a year or two because DePodesta gets cold feet if LA doesn't return to the postseason immediately.

I'd love to see Orel managing the Dodgers, it's been something I've hoped to happen since he retired. Hopefully Depodesta will actually start doing his job instead of tearing apart the team season after season for operation letdown.

I hope Depo will either 1) Decide to name himself manager because that's what he really wants or 2)Let the manager actually manage

I'm kinda torn on this (like I suspect a lot of people are) -- I'd love to see him get the chance to manage but I don't see this being a situation where he could be successful right now.

Much as I hate to, I think I'm going to hope he doesn't get/take the job ... and then root like hell for him to do well if he does.

Thumbs up

Hire the man! If Mike Scioscia could do it in Anaheim (sorry, there's only 1 team in L.A. and that's the LA DODGERS), I've no doubt Hershiser can too. Hershiser has that scrapper mentality and he knows what it takes to win.

On your first point, about there being only one team in LA, the Dodgers, I think most Angels fans would agree. This entire calling them the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" or whatever is just really stupid.

On the second part, I agree, Hershiser can do a good job. I don't know if he's ready for it, and admittedly, I'm not a huge Dodgers buff, but if he gets the job, I think he'll do alright.

Hershiser as the manager, with Gibby as his bench coach?

Cheers!
