FOFC Multiplayer CIV 4 Game

I figure I would start a thread to see if anyone wants to play a game online sometime this weekend (tonight or tomorrow).

Edit: I'd guess that I'll probably wake up by 10 or 10:30 in the morning.

I can make a 3PM eastern game.
I guess the settings will be dictated by whether we expect to play this all the way through today, or if we want to save and finish Sunday.
I'd suggest normal game speed, but a short turn time limit and a world size below the middle of the spectrum. We could just randomize the climate, sea level, etc. We could reach a consensus on these settings in the pre-game chatroom.

Personally, I think quick game speed would be best...

When you set it up use:
Game Name: FOFC
Password: trout

OK, it's your party!
I've never tried quick speed, but I understand it only affects the rate at which units and buildings are constructed. I'm interested to see how much it alters the way the game flows.

LOL...

Just with a "normal" game speed, it would take a long time. Maybe EF can chime in.

I've never played MP, so I'm not sure. Whatever settings you want to try are ok with me.

Edit: Certainly we should have some sort of timer setting per turn.

its very fast and harder to look over things like in single play. it can be confusing at times. sometimes it going to feel like you dont have enough time to do things quickly.

Well, we had major technical problems in getting that game started. I'm not sure if it was something we were doing wrong, or there is some server instability right now.

Yup.....We both have cable connections, I wonder if those people in the first game had slower connections?

I wouldn't say the problems were major. I think we could have worked it out with a little more time.

I am away from my home (cable) connection, and believe the hotel here is on ISDN (its 256/128 connection). I'm sure I wasn't the problem, as I maintained connection till the end with Eaglesfan, while others kept losing connection.

I'm up for another try anytime today, tonight, or Sunday.

I think it would be worth trying a direct connection via IP address, and bypassing Gamespy. I don't know my IP address here at the hotel, but someone else could determine their IP and post that they are going to host a game. I think that'd be easier and probably more stable too.

that's just impatient 13 year olds that expect the game to start the instant they join it. The advantage to password protecting the game is that we will get alot more patience and cooperation amongst FOFC'ers.

Let me figure out my IP address and try to host a game. I also agree that the first game was fine. The major technical problems appeared to be trying to connect to the 2nd game.

I also think I don't ever want to try a non-password protected game again

I'll go set up a game with FOFC as the name and "trout" as the password and give it one more shot. If that doesn't work, then we can try the IP route.
