Civ 4--anyone playing on a slow computer?
I don't have the money right now to upgrade my computer, so I'm more than a bit distressed about the requirements of CIV 4...
I've got a 800 MHz Pentium III, running XP, 64 MB DDR Video Card, 384 MB RAM... When I ran the diagnostic available on the Apolyton website to determine if I could play the game, everything came back OK, except my video card...although all of the subcategories came back ok... Anyways... I'm tempted to buy the game anyways and see if I can slug my way through the game, but before I do, I was hoping to hear from anyone here what they've experienced playing the game on a slower machine... Thanks guys... Kevin |

I'm guessing it would be an incredibly horrid experience on that computer. I loaded it on our old computer upstairs when we had some carpenters in to do work in the media room the other day (I couldn't get to my computer room). It's a 1.6GHz P4, with GeForce Ti4200 64MB, 512 MB RAM, etc..
The game started fine, but by 1400 AD it was so slow the game would crash every time it tried to save. |

Not sure if the below thread will link...
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...m+requirements If not, I found it at apolyton.net's message board, under the "Civ 4-Help" forum. Good luck. Kevin |

Thanks that is it, and No my laptop does not have the right video card to run the program. Hell, I don't think my laptop even has it's own video card.

I'm running it on 1000mhz, 384 megs with a 128mb video card. My system was having a problem freeing up enough virtual memory to run it at tolerable level, so i'm looking at upgrading my system this week. The delay between turns was just insane, we're talking 4-5 minutes when i was up against 7 AI opponents.

Yeah, I'm on a slow computer.
1.7 Ghz P-IV 512 MB RAM 32 MB GeForce4 Go 440 And it works fine... some big slow down in end game, but definetly playable.

I'm running it on an 800 mHZ with 512 MB RAM. I had problems with 256 MB RAM -- the "virtual minimum memory too low" box would come up when I clicked on a city, and Civ would never come back. No problems with 512 MB, though. And I have a 128 MB video card. It runs slow, but it runs.
