Ping: Poker Players - Dealing with the downswings
How do you deal with downswings? After doing very well on the monthly Crypto bonuses, I have been hit with a hellacious downswing of 75 BB. I playing at the Poker Network and I am just getting my ass handed to me. I, of course, have the bankroll to survive these type of swings but it is frustrating none-of-the-less.
I am just looking for some suggestions on what the best route for me is to take from here. I have stopped playing after dropping 37.5BB tonight. My play, while not perfect, has been solid. I am picking up solid reads on players only to be outdrawn on the turn or river. I know the old poker feeling is play good and let the cards fall as they do. However, this has been a frustrating experience. My core hands have only produced a .27 BB/Hand over this swing. Marginal hands have been have lost .11 BB/Hand. I have lost 70.5 with junk hands in the blinds. The Poker Network seems to be very aggressive. I have tried to make adjustments but I am just getting crap hands.

don't try to get it all back at once. Maybe play in some tournaments to slow things down a bit.

From a former prop of 2 years take some time off.. I personally was playing everyday and when the time came I would take off upto 3 weeks from playing, only reading books and websites still.. When I came back I would be refreshed and playing better and not worrying about all the beats that were happening.. When propping I had some big swings in both directions, just many more in the positive.

Yeah, if you can spare it, time off is a great thing. I took off 2 months and I think my game (and more importantly, my mindset) improved. I came back to a home game and quickly went up like $130. Don't think that woulda happened if I didn't take time off.
Good luck and hopefully your luck and such turns around. |

I started playing at bravotv.com, it's free, but you have a chance to play at the celebrity poker tournament. I was up about $800 last month and I've pretty much lost most of that in the past 2 weeks. So I'm on my "free" break.
