cal-usc it takes 11

i went into the season with high hopes for cal. they had a perfect schedule for a young talented team with 2 inexperienced but seemingly talented qb's. it did not seem like a major setback but the injury to longshore in the 1st game proved to be critical. cal went 5-0 against weak opposition and looked pretty good but qb ayoob seemed to be slow in coming around. now as they are playing usc in the 10th game i see cal as a team that has 84 guys that have improved and one guy that is absolutely no better than he was in his first game. unfortunately the guy that has not improved 1 inch is ayoob. this is a guy that was an all- american jc qb and had spring practice with the team and has tutoring that has turned out so many outstanding qb's. the past couple of weeks i began to see that he is worst qb in the pac-10 now i honestly believe that he is the worst starting qb in all of div 1-a. cal is trying to beat usc (fairly weak defense) with a completely predictable offense. but what can you do when you have a qb that simply can not complete a pass. what's worse is ayoob has absolutely no feel for the game and that is hard to believe with a guy who is in his 7th year as a qb. the coverage team brought out the fact (which i knew) that ayoob is dyslexic. but cal knew this when he was recriuted and if that was thought to be a problem they would not have recruited him in the first place.

sometimes it just happens that you make a mistake on a guy and this is the case with ayoob. i believe that he will never even be an average qb. if longshore is medically cleared to play against stanford i believe he will wind up as the starting qb in a game that cal needs to win to be bowl eligible. cal will be a good team next year and it is unfortunate that the most experienced qb on their roster in 2006 will be completely out of the picture.

Just one thing I'd say - USC is not a fairly weak defense. They have some injuries, but even then the talent out there is ridiculous. They are not top 10 by any means and I don't want to imagine what might happen if they come up against Texas but considering all the injuries that they've had the young guys are playing out of their skins.

Oh, and Ayoob sucks pretty bad but I think he will develop. Remember USC made Sam Keller look pretty bad as well, and he's an above average D-1 QB.

It's a shame what happened to Longshore, but I'm just happy for an easier game against you guys for once. I won't be shedding too many tears, not this week anyway.

Ayoob sucks - plain and simple. He has a mental problem where he's aiming the ball now instead of throwing. But Cal returns alot of starters next year. If they can rebuild their line and find a safety - they'll be pretty good next year IMO. Ayoob can improve, but if not there's good competition next year at QB with Longshore, Ayoob, and Reed (the redshirt freshman).

Hey, if Rodgers had come back this year at QB I still think they would have been a top 10 team.
