Movie music composers

I've always been a big John williams fan.. he does some wonderful movie scores.. but here lately i've been hearing alot more Hans Zimmer stuff and found it to be extremely good..

Anyone else i should know about, that perhaps i have missed?

Yes.

Danny Elfman
James Horner
John Barry
Howard Shore
Alan Silvestri
Jerry Goldsmith

Start with those. If you need more, let me know

Here's a good site for film score reviews, etc.

I have listened to a ton of movie music composers and most of my favorites are listed here.

Hans Zimmer is definately my favorite.

Mark Mothersbaugh has done outstanding work on Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Hans Zimmer is good, but I am a huge fan of E.S. Posthumus. They are not really newcomers since a lot of there music is recognizable in trailers, but they have had their music in a number of movies as well. I am eagerly awaiting for a new album, but their last album was named Unearthed. You will definitely recall at least one of their songs in a movie or trailer you watched over the years.

Anyways here is a link to hear the samples and read the reviews as well:

Danny Elfman is amazing.

Isn't he a director only?

Of course Ennio Morricone did the music for the cult classic "The Thing" by John Carpenter. Which was perfect for the film.

He made up the theme to "Halloween" while dinking around on a little keyboard, and I know he's done a ton of other ones: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000118/ .

"The Thing" appears to be one of the only ones he didn't compose.
