Now for the First Time Ever ...

I come to you...from home....Over DSL(720kbs and happy about it).

No more dialup for me baby!!!!!!!

This may seem minor to you city folk, but I've been too far away from civilization to have ever had more than 56kb dial-up connection at home.

I just went to the FOFC FBCB site, and downloaded the current file in just a minute or so. It has been a chore to keep up with the league, cause it used to take me over an hour to download.

WHOOT!!!!

Wow, I remember our first dial-up modem back in the 90's. I believe it was a 2400kb or something... anyway, we had to wait until the d/l was finished before we could do anything else.

Glen, once you go DSL, you won't go back.

I didn't realize Fresno qualified you are country folk. This has got to be a joke if you are a UNIX geek.

I live in the sticks, actually amongst the vineyards South of Fresno. The small town of Fowler is the closest "city", and that is about three miles away. I can stand out on my front porch and shoot a shotgun into the air, and I don't think my neighbor would take note.

As for the UNIX part...That is too true, although my technical chops are diminishing since I was promoted to management I still get to show off by translating a regular expression or two every now and then.

That reminded me of when I downloaded FOF2 back on a crappy old modem. Took hours for that sucker to finish downloading...I think I had to leave for school in the middle of the process and I couldn't wait to get home so I could start playing.

That's awesome Glen - I hope you don't go do something crazy like buying one of those newfangled horseless carriages - things are way to risky.

I'll tell you what. Internet Porn has revolutionized!

We've been too far away the city to get DSL until now. The phone system infrastructure wasn't up to it. In fact, we weren't able to get caller ID until recently. Satelite was the only option other than dial-up, and if you've ever done satelite internet you understand that latency is a BIG problem when you are bouncing signals to and from orbit. Since a lot of my work when I work from home is typing on the command line, I couldn't deal with the latency. But now that has all changed. I think I'm going to start tunneling X11 graphics over ssh. Whoot!!

I tell you what, DSL was super fast compared to phone, but man, cable blows them away. I think our cable is now over 5mbps

Just a piece of advice: I cut my neighbors' cable wires so I could go faster (just in case you want even faster internet service).
