Remember when...

...you ran down the stairs on Christmas morning and found 1 big present under the tree (cause your parents could only afford one good gift in those days). You were hoping beyond hope that it was what you had dreamed about all year. The only item on your list to Santa.

You open it and—

Yep.

Snapped that photo last night in my basement after doing a bit of a purge. Not sure if I'll ever have the heart to toss the box out. Still have the Falcon, even though its beat to hell. My daughter actually plays with it on occasion.

Just be careful of the Battle Alert Sound!

God I loved those days.

I hated every kid that had one. (My parents would never pay that much for one toy)

My parents never bought it for me as well...too much money. I had the littler die-cast metal one though and it rocked.

I'm pretty sure they were close to $100 back in the late 70's early 80's. I'd hate to guess what that is with inflation.

And speaking of that, isn't weird that toys are the one set of items that prices have actually shrunk over time? I remember as a kid that a piece of crap bike would cost $100. My sister got a used one one year for $60 and that was a big deal. You can get one like it now for $25 new.

I remember when there was a huge box under the Christmas tree. When I opened it, there was tons of balled up newspaper. After spending several minutes digging through it, I found a lump of coal. My parents found it amusing; however, I did not.

Grab the coal and start writing/drawing on the walls with it. When your parents try and stop you by taking away the coal, mumble something about "lemons out of lemonade"

It was purchased in 1980 and the box has the bright orange "thank you" sticker from Jewelcor (wow, haven't heard that name in a while) and has a price tag of $29.95 and right below that, $22.97.

Anyone remembering $99 must be mistaken. I know the current Lego Falcon is $99 ??

from this link:

I can see I have the First Issue Empire Strikes Back version.

I have also kept the Darth Vader Star Destroyer box.

The price tag of this puppy is $16.97 from Lionel Kiddie City (long since out of business).

But that is a pretty amusing story! Thanks for sharing!

I picked up both my old Falcon and Star Destroyer from my parents house just a month ago. I also had the Death Star set (complete with trash monster) among other things. I considered putting them all together and setting up some sort of display in my baement, but haven't done anything with them yet.
