Cultural genocide? Those are pretty strong words. Are we in trouble, or is this just all coincidence? Maybe it's time to go buy that hybrid?

Canadian emissions - up 24% since signing Kyoto.
US Emissions - up 13% in the same time
France/Germany/Italy - also rising since ratifying Kyoto.
China/India/South Korea - rapidly rising, but exempt from Kyoto.
China - also the most polluted country in the world, so ask why all the attention is directed at the US

Now Canada/France/Germany are buying tons of credits from Russia because the collapse of the Russian economy meant they were well above their goals. Considering the state of the European economies, a recession on their part actually has a decent chance of happening once you add on the added energy costs, which would be about the only hope of meeting the emissions standards.

Kyoto is going along just Peachy isn't it?

A couple of points that are overlooked or forgotten. The Clinton Admin wasn't for signing on to Kyoto either. The doubts expressed regarding Global Warming aren't with respect to its existence, rather with its cause. The Kyoto "pollution" credits mentioned above are exactly like the Credits used in the Bush admin's Air Pollution act/program(is it Blue Skies or Clear Skies, or Clean Air act?). The environmentalists bash the use of credits in America, yet embrace Kyoto which includes the same mechanism.

Yeah, there are two debates here. Global Warming and its consequences is really the controversial one, which I don't want to get into because it's close to impossible to prove/disprove any of the numerous theories/sides. Then there is Kyoto, which anyone who gets past the quick introduction/knee-jerk reaction will realize was useless to begin with and is failing regardless. Unless you are among those who want to blame everything on the US, in which case it's a great talking point. (Bonus points for putting it all on Bush, when Clinton was against it and the Senate voted it down like 99-0)
