I totally don't understand the fascination with this. All of a sudden there is a huge media blitz about this like it's some sort of world-changing thing. I've seen news stories, articles in magazines/newspapers, huge displays in bookstores, stories on the radio about them, etc.

It's a freaking puzzle, folks. Is there something I'm missing?

In my experience, everybody eventually gets to the point at which they realize that you're basically doing the same patterns over and over again. While the pzuzles can still be challenging, they eventually only serve as time wasters rather than mind-bending exercises. That's all fine, and I still enjoy a Sudoku every now and then, but I don't get the reasoning behind all these Sudoku books that are coming out now. I mean, you can just go to websudoku.com and print a bunch of randomly generated Sudoku puzzles if you want to take them on a bus or a plane or something. You don't need to go buy a book with a whole bunch of 'em.

I just bought a book of sudoku puzzles tonight! I'd done two or three of them before. The math geek in me likes them because they deal with numbers, but they're just okay. I wouldn't really have bought a book of them, but I've been hanging out in a hospital with nothing better to do.

Would you like the puzzle less if it used letters A through I instead of numerals?

Is there something I'm missing? Hasn't Dell (the crossword puzzle people) had the same type of puzzle for years?

Yes! I was looking through my grandmother's TV Guide. They have one that uses letters, and I didn't even bother. FWIW, it didn't use the letters A through I -- it used the letters of the queen of daytime -- F Y R G E N O W I. I assume they're spelling Winfrey, and the O is for Oprah, but I don't know what the G is for. Anyway, I didn't bother trying it.

Rather than start a new thread I'll try asking in here:

Does anyone know a place on the web for the type of puzzles that go something like:

There are four neighbors A, B, C, and D. They live in a red house, a green house, a blue house, and a white house.

A does not live in a green house.
B lives next door to the person in the white house.

Who lives in each house?

Jim Loy's webpage has some stuff on it, specifically the Puzzles section and the Logic section.
