MOST RECENT SOLECISMIC RELEASE UPDATE (12/16/05)

Not sure if anyone noticed on the Solecismic Website but this was on the front page:

Just in time for the 2005 Holiday Season, we are offering our products at a reduced price. Front Office Football 2004 is now available for $24.95 and The College Years is now available for $19.95. If you haven't tried these games before, download the free demo copies now and give them a look.

Not to start the latest conspiracy theories, but it is rather convenient for a sale to be done around the holidays to get rid of "older" inventory.

But wait....theres more!

While the last two years have been more family-focused, with no new products seeing release, 2006 will mark several changes for the company. We will release a fully updated version of one of our football games this year, though it will be a few months before a final decision is made as to which one. We will also move our office (and home) to Michigan to be closer to family. That's become more important as our two-year-old son, Gregory, continues to develop in his own manner. We will break ground on our new home in January.

I don't know if the "inventory" angle makes sense, since both of these products are download only.

Well, not physical inventory,...but possibly trying to sell as many older products before newer become available....

If they ever become available.

Both are super-great bargains. Anyone who hasn't purchased either of them should.

With the release of BBCF, if Jim is on the verge of releasing TCY2 he is now going to have to pull back and maybe make some additions or tweaks.

How strange that he announces that there will be an update, but that he hasn't decided which one he'll release yet. I assume this means that he has been/is working on both of them?

How about one game encompassing both?

hmmm.

I can think that he is working on both, and will release FOF Updated. His TCY project (because of the amount of work) will be released later.

Although, he did mention that he was wanting to update TCY to fix things like conferences and the like. Perhaps this is what it's going to be.

Who knows. Good news either way I guess.

Not bad. Twelve minutes from updating the web site to a new item here, and another ten for a sticky.

I see this as a compromise solution. The "no news whatsoever" tact worked fine as long as I was releasing games fairly frequently. However, it has become too much of a distraction in and of itself.

I have been working on updates to both games. I have not fully focused on either and don't have anything close to release. I have also taken a lot of time off in the last couple of years, I've been helping design our new home as completely as possible. And before that, I just needed some time off, so I only worked on patches and tried a couple of new things (one of which is the free ftp program on my site).

For the next couple of months, I'm going to work on interface stuff. I just received my copy of Visual Studio 2005, and that will open up a few new things for me. Hopefully, by the end of February, I will make my choice, contract necessary artwork, and continue with the intensive programming. I do not have a perspective release date, though I do know that we intend to move sometime around October 1, so I will try and avoid that time period for the heavy work (or Angela will kill me).

Yeah, the sticky took a while, due to un-stickying other stuff and reading your site for myself.

Not to kill my sleuthing skills, but coming across that was blind luck.

For some reason, I couldn't get access to the forums temporarily. So, I decided to use the "reacharound" and get in through Jim's site.

Low and behold, I came across the holiday sale. That made me do a little bit more searching.

So, not to break the hearts of all you people, but I was not one of the people to hit refresh on the Solecismic website every 10 seconds to get news.

Wow, this is interesting. TCY2? Could it be?

Really doesn't matter to me...Jim has the best sim engine second to none.

I challenge you Jim to bring on TCY2 so I can crush Michigan with Duke!

Pro man - pro. The college game is simply not as interesting (IMO) from a simulation perspective.

That being said, its going to be 10 months or so until either one - so we'll see.

Great news !
Glad it's a Football game update (I would guess TCY 2 since FOF2004 is rock n rolling and doing real well in multiplayer leagues ?).

On the Solecismic website frontpage, remember it still says "Solecismic Software is an entertainment software company dedicated to producing cutting-edge career football simulations"

That's a really good thing that Jim continues on the Football side of text-based sims.

Higher Resolutions. Larger screens for more data, ability to expand size of all windows in game. Moddable backgrounds and images. Player images. Team Logos.

And all without having to sacrifice the sim engine we know and trust.

This is gonna be good.
