My rant of the day 12-17-05

My rant of the day is people that abuse government programs. Now the program that I am specifically ranting about today is FMLA. Where I work, there are people that are on constant FMLA. I mean that not a single year goes by, where they do not use every single day of FMLA that they have available. It really sickens me. Especially when these people come to work, and look perfectly fine. Also, these same people never leave halfway through the day because they got sick. It seems like some of these people always have something that prevents them from working this month. "Well I injured my arm". Or the job I am doing now has hurt my back. I cannot do it anymore or I am going to need to file workman's comp. These people bascially are just a drag on our company. But the worse thing is they have the company scared, because they may have gotten injured at work once, and always talk about how they are gonna sue them. The biggest problem I have with people like that is that they basically waste payroll, and do not allow someone else, who may be a better worker, and is here quite a bit more, to get hired on.

I know, I was just giving you shit.

I haven't done my PP of the day for 3 days since I've been really sick and really unmotivated.

That's awful. Have you thought about filing for FMLA?

Ok, since I was given the opportunity to post my own rant of the day..............

Why the hell do people flash their brights when they go to pass someone on the interstate? Yeah I am in a big truck, so what? I can see you you idiot, your normal headlights are just fine for making you visible and since you are in the left lane I am already well prepared for you to pass me. I do understand what the left lane is used for, I have seen it done a couple of times.

Of course flashing your brights right when I am checking my mirror is always the best, because then I get blinded for a second or two and perhaps I can swurve and hit you, which is what you are paranoid about in the first place I assume. And while you are hitting me with your brights, watch out for that surprise flick of the switch I do on my spot lights mounted to the back of my cab. hehe.

As far as the original rant goes, I don't see how the bastards can afford to take that much time off. I know I couldn't, hell I worked Thanksgiving and will now work some of my holiday days coming up. Must be nice I guess. Of course I am jealous of them just taking one day off, since if I call in sick for a day, chances are I miss the rest of the week because they will send my co-driver off without me.

Is that why people do that? That bugs me too, but I never understood it ...

I'd like to rant about people using acronyms without defining what they mean. After looking it up, yeah, I don't like when people take advantage of sick leave, but what can you do. Fire them?

Yeah Family and Medical Leave Act. Supposedly, you get 12 weeks every year to have a baby or take care of a family member. You keep health benefits, but I'm not sure if you get paid.

Thanks, I was a little off but I knew it was something like that. The time off part I knew about. Why couldn't a guess the 'A' was for Act? Doh!

fmla was more or less meant to be used when a loved one was sick and that person was needed to take care of them. aka Family Medical Leave act.

You are right though, and the problem is doctors support people like that.. because they want them to keep coming back for more money

"Oh, your ankle is hurting? want a restriction? come back in a week"

No, you don't get paid. Where I work, we don't really have sick days. We have paid time off. Anytime you miss a day and it isn't scheduled it count against you.

For example, someone I work with, misses a ton of work from January through october. This person will be gone for weeks at a time. When FMLA runs out, this person is here every day.

You don't get paid for it, however my company's medical does offer short term disability. I have no idea how that is used, and if these people use something like that.

I suppose this is what my work refer to as personal days. They are not payed, like our short term and long term disability. Occasionally I will get a day for something like a dentist/doctor appointment I guess. The only time I have ever done more was 6 years ago I took a week to stay home when the kid was born.

Problem is... Fmla is completely unchecked, So say your wife has a cold.. you could claim fmla because you have to take care of the kids.. for a week

What I really hate is people who go to work sick. You're sick, stay the eff home. I don't want to catch a cold because you're saving up your sick day for some party later on in the year. I'll go so far as to say, if you come to work sick, it's obvious you are sick, and I get sick- I want to be able to charge you with the assault equivalent of involuntary manslaughter for getting me sick.
