Is Will & Grace Funny

Im doing a statistical analysis to see if a broad specturm of us FOFC'ers think the show is funny. Im specifically adding a faith based portion to the question and with all fairness will leave the poll public. I may not have worded the seond portion correctly BUT it is not meant to be vindictive just simply taken for what it is, and attempt to see if the answer would be effected by faith since the show has 2 main characters and many storylines which are homosexual in nature.

Well i tried to make it public but it didnt, phooey!! any way to do that now?

Beating the poll, I can say conclusively that the show is not funny now nor has it been for many seasons. It was groundbreaking for what it did, but quickly ran out of steam.

I didn't watch it at all untill about two years ago, but it is funny. I really like it, though it is still not one of my dvr selections. I will always watch it in sindication on slow nights.

Other -- Like most shows, there's an occasional funny line here & there, but it isn't consistently funny.

I balk at the "faith leads" thing, simply because I find a distinction between "faith" and "beliefs" (the former being a subset of the latter). A minor quibble, because I got your point, but it was a quibble that made me a little twitchy about the wording.

I never watched W&G until my fiancee' moved in with me but now I catch myself watching reruns when she's not around. Karen and jack are the best part of the show, though.

Oh, and I really don't have a faith, but I have no problem with gay people.

I won't participate in the poll since I'm not comfortable with any of the choices, but I am on record as believing it to be the worst popular show of my lifetime.

imagine that, the ones who are clearly faith based in their thoughts that Gays are "bad" are the ones who are senistive to having that fact written out.

It's not funny. I'm not a man of faith. I have no problem with gay people. The ones I have run across tend to be nicer than straight folks.

It is basically the Nanny with gay humor. I hated the Nanny too.

My objection has nothing to do with my faith, but with philosophical issues that could spark an uproar. I object to classifying people in terms of tolerance, whether it's on 'racial' grounds or 'sexual preference' grounds or some other division. People are people, and I want them all to be happy.

I used to watch it... until they started in with Karen playing a much larger role (or maybe I just got sick of her). She annoys the hell out of me, so much so that I don't watch it anymore.

Had a fairly long response typed up to answer your question about the wording of the poll, Flasch, but I really don't want to get into that discussion. I will only say that the Christian faith, for example, teaches tolerance of all people, even those that are going against its teachings. Your wording may be at issue, as you earlier suggested.

i left Christian out on purpose. Faith and Christianity can be 2 seperate things and I was trying to be vanilla when it came to each religion.

Understood. But is there a religion that teaches non-tolerance? There may be religions that teach non-tolerance for what they deem to be sins, but I can't think of one that teaches bigotry or hatred toward the person committing those "sins." I think the mistake in wording might lie in the delineation between what the faith actually teaches and how many practitioners of said faith behave.

Sorry. I don't mean to turn this into a faith discussion. We've had plenty of those around this joint.

I took what Cuckoo is saying as, regardless of the source of faith, you can be tolerant towards gays (person) and not agreeable with the act (lifestyle).

Christianity does not teach TOLERANCE. It teaches us to LOVE our fellow man ... not to TOLERATE them. There is a world of difference there.

Well, I think that a big part of love is tolerance. It is respecting others even when they may be doing something you feel is wrong. It is about treating them with compassion rather than hatred. Christianity teaches, essentially, "Hate the sin, love the sinner."

You can say that those are two different things, although I would say they're far more closely related than you suggest. Either way, I'm not sure you can support the statement that there is a "world of difference" between them.

That's interesting, because Karen is my favorite character (actually Rosie, her deadpan maid, is my favorite). Her voice is annoying, but it's part of the character.

I like the show, although I liked it much better about three years ago. Like all shows that have been on as long as that one has, the writers seem to be having a difficult time coming up with new ideas. I'm with Jeeber though - the interactions between Karen and Jack tend to be my favorite parts of the show.

I misred the question and voted for the wrong no, but I edited the result to remove my vote and added a vote to the answer I meant to select (because I can).

I also fixed the spelling.

I'm not a person of faith... I have no problem with gay people... the show is funny at times, but not funny enough to be classified as "funny." It's your standard network sitcom.

The one thing that I find interested about Will & Grace is that when it first came out it wasn't as much of a big deal like when Ellen announced her coming out on her show. At least it shows that people in general are becoming alot more tollerant then they were say 10 years ago.

Cut out Will and Grace, and leave me with Jack and Karen, and I am fine with it. They are the funny ones, especially together from what I have seen.

I really enjoyed Will & Grace for the first two or three seasons, but it felt like it went downhill after that. It may have improved lately, but it lost me as a viewer when it stopped being funny.

Your title is misleading. This looks to be about religion and gays.

Edit: I used to watch the show the first and second season, but they seemed to run out of ideas.

It is not. It is specifically regarding whether or not your values, based on faith (intentionally left vanilla) effects whether or not you think the show is funny.

so then you would eliminate 2 choices above and then look inside and see if you feel you are tolerant of gays and then click the appropriate of the 2 choices left.

Tolerance implies that the subject is in some way 'outside.' I take the lesson of the Gospels to be that all mankind is family, and is to be loved as family, and included.

Sorry, I must abstain. I would prefer an option that allows the concept that W&G was funny, but is no longer funny.

For the record, it was the episode with Glenn Close as the photographer when it jumped the shark. That began the "let's have a baby subplot" and then the appearance of Harry Connick Jr., and it's been all downhill since then. Even the talents of Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally can no longer save the show.

oh, I will fall into all kinds of traps and steretypical behavior in a BW and Flasch cage match. I absolutely wanted to see if and where he would vote but AM interested in finding out if a disdain for gays would affect one's thoughts on a TV show....it seems that I cannot draw a conclusion since most everyone voted that the show isnt funny anyways.
