Johnny Damon=Who cares
I HATE THE EAST COAST MENTALITY. There are countless examples of it and its really annoying after awhile. I lived on the east coast and some of my favorite teams are out there, but god damn its prevelant. Sorry, had to rant. Now go back and praise the 9-5 patriots as the #2 in football to the colts(peter king does)

I do not care. I hate the Yankees, but the only thing I hate more than the Yankees are the Red Sox.
I was going to post this in the other thread, but I decided against it. It's like those people who go into a thread that clearly has to do with hockey and say something like "Hockey is back?" "No one cares about hockey." "Hockey is stoopid, baseball rox!" Or something along those lines. I hate that.

I don't get it. You hate people who follow and discuss their favorite teams?
I do wish the talk around here was more Patriots oriented in December, but that's New England. |

Yeah because we never heard a word about that one team... thinks... what was their name again?
Oh yeah, the Lakers. Or USC It's hardly a coast bias, it's just that it's one of the more noteworthy happenings in a longstanding rival, there's no Colts undefeated season to sensationalize, the national championship game is still a while away, and nobody cares about Basketball or Hockey at this point in their seasons. |

I could care less, ive only been here a few years...its just disheartening when ALL i ever hear about is the east coast teams in the media. This deal got far bigger press then any of the deals for players far better then him. Ive heared repeatedly on TV hes now the best CF in baseball, and if not that at least the best leadoff man. kansas city couldnt give him away a few years ago, and hes an average bat... Seattle is 12-2 in football yet many rankings have them far below teams like new england and the giants....teams with far worse records Id venture to say 60-70% of all sports articles centered on one team are about east coast teams. TO got so much press since hes playing in philly. Did he get that press in San Fran?? Its just fucking annoying, and then people like fozzie make jackass comments like that and it pisses me off even more...get off your high a mighty chair(and note, i lived in philly not 4 years ago and am to this day a fan of the philly teams far more then anything AZ has to offer so consider that before you talk of local teams.

To illustrate with an example, if the Cards sign away Kerry Wood this time next offseason, there isn't a giant "Rivalry" headline on every single sports site and newspaper. Or to even counter the LA thing, if Jason Schmidt goes to the Dodgers next year.

Gee, Chicago & St. Louis combined are roughly 50% smaller than New York. y'think that might have a little something to do with it? As for the other example, few people outside of the NL West give a damn about Schmidt & trying to compare him changing teams to a guy who was arguably THE most visible symbol of a recent WS winner is downright silly. I loathe the northeast as much as anybody else, but it's not like there aren't some pretty obvious & logical reasons something like the Damon move gets the sort of attention it's gotten.

New Fucking England (particularly) began the goddamm revolution against the English crown, and contributed the vast majority of the manpower to the Continental Armies that won this country freedom from King George and the British Empire while the rest of the country was just filled with Indians. The vast majority of the major advertising/media companies are centered in New York because that is the financial center of the country. So too bad. East Coast bias is here to stay. Live with it, or move south of the border. |

We're going back to "200 years ago scoreboard" to explain why there's overzealous covering of sports there when it wasn't even a twinkle in the founding fathers eyes?

Give it a rest. The "east coast bias" is a figment of paranoid westerners' imaginations. |

Marlins: 2 world series in past 10 years
Red Sox: 1 in 80 We get the occasional Marlins are horrible story, but everyday we get the latest on what Theo Epstein had for breakfast. If you want to say deal with it, fine. Just letting you know that most of the country could give two shits about the Red Sox. No sour grapes from a Cards fan either, because I don't care much about them either. (Though I will take Sox/Yankees stories for the next 100 years if I don't get the "pleasure" of the Manning vs. Manning super bowl hype coming up before the Giants bow out in the first round of the playoffs) |

I couldn't give two shits about most of the country's opinion of New England sports coverage. Doesn't mean I feel the urge to make a thread about it.

Can't argue with that. Red Sox fans complaining about the Yankees payroll bug me. You can still be dissappointed and not pleased with what happened with Damon without feeling it's an issue of payroll. The Red Sox could of afforded what the Yankees paid him, they either dropped the ball completly or didn't think he was worth it.

There is a certain hypocracy in hating on a player for leaving your team via Free Agency, when the only reason he came to your team in the first place was via Free Agency. Merc's come and go, this issue is way out of control.

As of 1777, almost half of the Continental Army's regiments came from the colonies of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Maryland. Add to that the relatively huge number of soldiers from Pennsylvania (which is most certainly NOT a part of New England), and the debate becomes moot. Edit: fixed spelling of "Pennsylvania"
