Johnny Damon=Who cares

I HATE THE EAST COAST MENTALITY. There are countless examples of it and its really annoying after awhile. I lived on the east coast and some of my favorite teams are out there, but god damn its prevelant. Sorry, had to rant. Now go back and praise the 9-5 patriots as the #2 in football to the colts(peter king does)

I do not care. I hate the Yankees, but the only thing I hate more than the Yankees are the Red Sox.

I was going to post this in the other thread, but I decided against it. It's like those people who go into a thread that clearly has to do with hockey and say something like "Hockey is back?" "No one cares about hockey." "Hockey is stoopid, baseball rox!" Or something along those lines. I hate that.

I don't get it. You hate people who follow and discuss their favorite teams?

I do wish the talk around here was more Patriots oriented in December, but that's New England.

The problem is that east coast teams seem to get way more press and attention than other regions whenever they do anything. It's just irritating. The world doesn't revolve around New Fucking England and New Fucking York.

Yeah because we never heard a word about that one team... thinks... what was their name again?

Oh yeah, the Lakers.

Or USC

It's hardly a coast bias, it's just that it's one of the more noteworthy happenings in a longstanding rival, there's no Colts undefeated season to sensationalize, the national championship game is still a while away, and nobody cares about Basketball or Hockey at this point in their seasons.

LA....LA....LA...its the one city exception...and note thats becuase its the one city east coast writers care about or has enough west coast writers living there to pump it up....dont use the one exception.

To illustrate with an example, if the Cards sign away Kerry Wood this time next offseason, there isn't a giant "Rivalry" headline on every single sports site and newspaper. Or to even counter the LA thing, if Jason Schmidt goes to the Dodgers next year.

Gee, Chicago & St. Louis combined are roughly 50% smaller than New York. y'think that might have a little something to do with it?

As for the other example, few people outside of the NL West give a damn about Schmidt & trying to compare him changing teams to a guy who was arguably THE most visible symbol of a recent WS winner is downright silly.

I loathe the northeast as much as anybody else, but it's not like there aren't some pretty obvious & logical reasons something like the Damon move gets the sort of attention it's gotten.

New Fucking England (particularly) began the goddamm revolution against the English crown, and contributed the vast majority of the manpower to the Continental Armies that won this country freedom from King George and the British Empire while the rest of the country was just filled with Indians.

The vast majority of the major advertising/media companies are centered in New York because that is the financial center of the country.

So too bad. East Coast bias is here to stay. Live with it, or move south of the border.

We're going back to "200 years ago scoreboard" to explain why there's overzealous covering of sports there when it wasn't even a twinkle in the founding fathers eyes?

Wow, that was the worst reasoning I have ever heard defending the media bias. I stared at it for a few seconds ready to laugh at your funny, sarcastic post, and then I read further and realized that you meant it. Unbelievable.

oh it has nothing to do with the media bias. just with the lack of respect i felt from earlier in the thread.

the media bias is all about the concentration of population/$$ in the NY/NE corridor.

Lack of respect for what? A lack of respect for northeast teams after i hear 1000 things a day about how great they are?

No one put down the northeast, or said it was california that won the revolution...im lost as where your going daddy torgo, and frankly astonished at your utter lack of tactfulness, intelligence, and simple understanding of a basic complaint of a true part of our sports reporting.

lol. i think i just have a bug up my butt today. it was a hell of a long day and i think i just snapped

i wouldn't say a lack of intelligence though. because that's certainly not true, and that's just going to piss me off. i do understand the complaint though, but i did intelligently address the reason for the "media bias" in followup comments.

The two biggest rivals in baseball, who are constantly competing over players. The biggest weakness on one team (Yankees) is now filled, leaving a glaring weakness on the other team (Red Sox).

Quote:

You must be catching the west coast feeds. Here in NY, there's a large portion of Yankee fans who aren't happy with the signing at all. The money, the years. They know he's not even a good defensive CF. Only reason they're okay with the deal is because he's a legit leadoff hitter...something the team hasn't had in a very long time.

Quote:

ESPN Power Rankings Indy - 1, Seattle - 2

SI Power Rankings Indy - 1, Seattle - 2

CBS Sportsline Power Rankings Indy - 1, Seattle - 2

Good try though.

Quote:

As a 49er fan living in NY, yes he did. You can't possibly not remember the following stunts he received plenty of attention for:

- The "stand on the Dallas star and showboat"
- The "stand on the Dallas star and get drilled by Darren Woodson"
- The "throw my coach under a bus and complain about not getting the ball"
- The "throw my QB under a bus and complain about not getting the ball"
- The "my QB is gay"
- The Sharpie incident

Owens started getting all of the attention when he caught that winning TD pass against GB in the playoffs, and it only grew from there.

Give it a rest. The "east coast bias" is a figment of paranoid westerners' imaginations.

We get the occasional Marlins are horrible story, but everyday we get the latest on what Theo Epstein had for breakfast. If you want to say deal with it, fine. Just letting you know that most of the country could give two shits about the Red Sox. No sour grapes from a Cards fan either, because I don't care much about them either.

(Though I will take Sox/Yankees stories for the next 100 years if I don't get the "pleasure" of the Manning vs. Manning super bowl hype coming up before the Giants bow out in the first round of the playoffs)

I couldn't give two shits about most of the country's opinion of New England sports coverage. Doesn't mean I feel the urge to make a thread about it.

I haven't gone that far yet ... but there is a certain schadenfreude I'm feeling about a major market team's fans bitching and moaning about a bigger market team throwing money around and stealing their players. Welcome to the rest of baseball, Red Sox fans.

Can't argue with that. Red Sox fans complaining about the Yankees payroll bug me. You can still be dissappointed and not pleased with what happened with Damon without feeling it's an issue of payroll. The Red Sox could of afforded what the Yankees paid him, they either dropped the ball completly or didn't think he was worth it.

There is a certain hypocracy in hating on a player for leaving your team via Free Agency, when the only reason he came to your team in the first place was via Free Agency. Merc's come and go, this issue is way out of control.

Yeah, tons of freedom fighter from oregon fought the Redcoats.
Rather than being a smartass you could do some research to prove me wrong.

As of 1777, almost half of the Continental Army's regiments came from the colonies of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Maryland. Add to that the relatively huge number of soldiers from Pennsylvania (which is most certainly NOT a part of New England), and the debate becomes moot.

Edit: fixed spelling of "Pennsylvania"

That's obviously because he jumped ship to his former team's most hated rival. I didn't think that would be so difficult to understand.

Hey... Congress was in session late into the night trying to figure out if they should renew the law that allows New England to reign supreme...
