Depends...there is a rollercoaster at Six Flags - GA...The Scream Machine, best seat is in the last car b/c when you go over the first hill, which is the biggest, you kind of fly out of your seat for a minute. But there is another one where it's best to be in the front for when you go upside down...

Myself, I like the back, try to see others reactions in front and around me.

I hear that! A couple of years ago, some speech kids had me take them to 6 Flags over Georgia after our national tournament, and forced me to go on the Georgia Scorcher. They then had the nerve to make fun of the fact that I scream like a girl.

A side note unrelated to topic.

I see the titles under our names have changed.

I'm now a "College Benchwarmer", instead of "Learning the ropes".

depends on the coaster, some are better front car rides than others. same for back car. I usually end up riding both when I go to a theme park.

If you're in the back though, the chances are slimmer.

Yes, although I'll qualify that by saying the only one I've been on is Batman at Great America. Man, it's been too long since I've been there.

I hate dangling rides even more than roller coasters. I've been on a few roller coasters just to prove I can do it, but I'm very afraid of heights. It doesn't stop me from doing things I need to do (such as flying or driving over huge bridges) so I don't see it as a problem. Some phobias are protective.

Dangling coasters don't seem as scary as regular ones for some reason...

Serious steel coasters: front seat is usually worth the extra wait

Traditional wooden coasters: back seat, greater "toss" effect

Suspended coasters: front seat is the only way to ride, period

Bingo. In addition to the toss effect on the old woodies, you also get pulled over the top of the hill and begin your drop at speed, rather than being held back for a couple seconds in the front seat.

At Kings Island here near Cincinnati they used to have a stand up coaster called the King Cobra. I loved getting the front seat on that one because standing at the top of the hill there was literally nothing between you and the bottom but the shoulder harness. It was pretty thrilling to not have part of the car in front of you. Sadly, that ride is gone now.
