Hooking up a wireless internet modem

I got a laptop for Christmas (as stated in the previous thread) and since people are giving computer advice, I thought I would ask. My wireless modem picks up our wireless internet access but the resources are limited. IE it reads the wireless but not to the point where it receives it on my computer. I don't feel like calling tech support to deal with it so why not ask here. Any ideas?

I'm assuming you're talking about a wireless NIC card? or do you have a cellular modem card?

Do you have security, IE - a WEP key on your wireless router? Security would keep you from getting in. If so, right click on the connection and there will be a place to set it up. Some routers also have software to input a MAC address.

This problem happened to me with a Hawking wireless card. I could not figure out how to fix it so settled on buying a D-Link wireless card.
