Adam Morrisson is awesome.

I'm watching Gonzaga/Memphis (good game, btw), and Adam Morrisson just continues to blow my mind. This kid should go #1 in the draft next year. He may not have the same exact game as Larry Bird, but I can definitely see the comparisons. I'll probably watch any Gonzaga game that comes on TV this year just because of him.

I'm a Memphis fan, and this game is driving me nuts. The Tigers won't go to basket much, and when they do drive and draw fouls, they miss their free throws. I know Carney is a hell of a defender, but they've got to double Morrison because Raivio is the only other Gonzaga player who's shooting the ball. Keep the ball away from Morrison and Raivio, and Memphis can take the lead again.

Calipari should be instructing his kids to do some specific things out there, and if a guy doesn't listen, pull him off the floor and sub in someone who will.

Yes, he's like Larry Bird, only if Larry Bird couldn't pass, rebound, or play defense.

He is white though, I'll give you that.

Ugh. And Williams is taking some fucking awful shots for Memphis here. The Tigers are lucky that they're only down by 3 as I type this.

On a side note, is anyone going to watch the New Orleans-Kansas game on Thursday? They mentioned it one time during this telecast, and I can't imagine anyone sitting in front of their TV to see that game. I'm a UNO alumnus, and I don't even think I can watch it.

Whoops, posted this in the wrong thread.

Adam Morrison isn't a bad passer. He does need to improve his defense and rebounding, though. He has time to improve.

He is white, indeed. Good observation.

Am I the only person seeing that Morrison and Raivio are the only guys shooting for Gonzaga? Hell, double both of them! Nobody else wants to shoot! Good grief. My wife and I are going absolutely crazy over here because Memphis is barely winning right now, and they're only playing against two guys.

Hey, UNO came out of nowhere and almost beat Vandy last week. That's enough to get my hopes up that we won't totally embarrass ourselves on national TV on Thursday. Maybe.

I should've known that you'd be the one glutton for punishment. OK, I admit it. I'll probably watch some of the game, too, but Thursday is bowling night, so I'll probably be leaving the house with about 10 minutes to go in the game. I want to see how the Privateers play without Bo.

I hate it when a team calls a timeout just seconds before the official timeout.

I was just complaining to my wife about that. Gonzaga couldn't wait three more seconds to call their timeout?

Morrison is shooting the lights out in San Franciso right now. He has 24 pts. in the first 12 minutes. He's been hitting shots from about 28 ft and another three while falling out of bounds. The guy is going nuts!!!

I missed this thread. Adam Morrison is good, unless it is the last ten minutes of the Memphis game. The Tigers had no problem shutting him down when they had to. Morrsion is a great shooter though. I think teams will find his weakness. Just put a tall defender on him. Teams in the WCC can not do this, but just wait to the Big Dance.

By the way, Memphis is awesome during the last ten minutes of the game. They really know how to shut a team down when they had to.

Just like they shut down Texas? They got outscored 21-11 in the last 7 minutes.

Not trying to start an argument here, but who is in C-USA other than Memphis?

Why does that matter? Memphis played the best OOC in college baskbetball. There is no questioning that. The two losses have been to top 5 teams.

Memphis had an off-night against Texas. They played terrible and still hung in the game. They made freshman mistakes which may be there downfall.

How bad did Memphis outscore Gonzaga in the last ten minutes?

And the Zags 3 losses are all against top 10 teams. Not to mention they beat Maryland and Michigan State and then lost by only 2 to the #1 team in the nation, UCONN, on 3 consecutive nights.

Alright, but how can posing the question of who is Conference-USA be relevant is this discussion?

I think it was more in response to your other thread where you said they are struggling in their own conference. Gonzaga and Memphis are in the same situation this year. Both teams are far and away the best team in their conference, which makes any game against them the game of the season for the rest of the league.

I think it would be incorrect to think that either of these teams will waltz right through without a close game or even an upset or two.

Both of these teams have Final 4 potential and I can't wait for March to come around.

Oh, and he ended up with 41 tonight (14/23 from the floor) for those who might be wondering. USF played a good game and their point guard had a career game scoring 30 for the Dons to keep it close until the final minutes where Gonzaga iced it from the line.

Gonzaga is the #1 free-throw shooting team in the nation which will help come tourney time, 80.8% as a team

Morrison had shots in that Memphis game down the stretch and missed them (which is going to happen, even to very good scorers). This, just put a big guy on him stuff doesn't work either. It worked for one team (if holding a guy to 34 before having him miss 5 or 6 fairly open shots down the stretch counts as working) but didn't work for MSU, UConn, or Oklahoma St. (to name a few) who all tried the same strategy. I think the key is rotating defenders, to be physical with him, and hope he wears down by the end of the game. If a team plays man to man, I'd start with a little guy on him in full deny to make him run as much as possible early. Then you have to attack his side of the zone when on offense in hopes to draw fouls.

When he was in HS the team I was an assistant coach for sent me to scout him. We'd heard that he had grown 4 inches since his junior season. After watching him score 14 points in 2 minutes to start the fourth quarter I told the coach that the only way to stop him was to not let him touch the ball. Instead we put our star player (who was a long 6'7" kid who was being recruited by division I schools) on him. We were ranked 9th in the state and they were ranked 4th. Morrison out scored our team finishing with 43. Our star player fouled out rather quickly, and our kids learned just how much they had to improve in order to even think about making a run at state.

I think Morrison scored at least 17 from the line. He also hit a nice three pointer at the buzzer. I think he is a great shooter and is a solid basketball player. I do not think he will be great in the NBA. He will have a nice career, but he should not be the #1 pick in the draft like some are projected.

Memphis did throw some bodies at him. That wore him down. Shawne Williams was put on him because he is tall. He could not get that shot over him accurately down the stretch. I think that is the key to shutting him down. I think doubling him is dumb since he is going to score anyway. Morrison alone can not beat you.

Memphis is a better team than Gonzaga, but I don't think it was Shawne Williams that was the key to shutting Morrison down over the last 10 minutes of the game. Morrison missed two or three wide open (Shawne nowhere to be found) shots down the stretch. I think Memphis did a good job of wearing him down with multiple defenders, but Morrison didn't take impossible shots, but missed very makeable shots (in fact better than the looks he usually gets). I don't think Shawnee is taller or played Morrison tougher than Marcus Dove (6'9" F from Oklahoma State) or taller or better than the big guys that UConn had on him. The difference was that Shawnee was something like the third or fourth guy to be really physical with him that game, and Morrison looked a little tired.

Even if you take away the 12 points Morrison made from the free throw line against Memphis, he finished with a very respectable 22 points. How Memphis won that game, and was largely ignored since Morrison went cold at a very noticable time, was the defense they played on Batista (5-13 15 points) and Raivio (3-12 8 points). Oh, and Carney's shooting didn't hurt Memphis either.

BINGO!!!!!

We have a winner. I was at the game so I get to throw an opinion in here. Memphis started the game with Carney on him, then switched to Antonio Anderson (~6'6"), then switched to Chris Douglas-Roberts (~6'6") before finally settling on Shawne Williams (~6'11"). I don't think the shear size of Williams is what shut down Morrison, I think it was the fact that Calipari was putting a fresh body on him every 10 minutes. Memphis has a swarming defense and shut everyone else out the entire game. They let Morrison get his shots.

Having said that, Morrison is the best player I have ever seen in person. I had a lot of respect for him until I heard the post-game show. the local commentator said that everytime Morrison went up for a shot he said "Buckets!!" to whoever was defending him. Funny; but a little classless to me.

I still would want him on my team anyday.

I'm just so happy there are other Memphis fans on the board!!!!!

P.S. The reason Memphis lost the Texas game was because they shot 35% from the field. You can't beat the preseason #2 when you shoot that bad.

Yeah, he's got a dirty sanchez...you can't really argue that, but maybe it will be his trademark, like Ewing's widow's peak, or Jordan's shaved head.

Another thing I like about Morrison is that he seems to have an extreme passion for the game of basketball, and loves to be challenged. I think that's necessary for a player to become a bona fide superstar, and he has it spades.

He's trash. Do you not remember those ten magical minutes in Memphis where he got shut down? Dude will be lucky to get into the D-League with 10 minutes like those on his resume.

J.J. Reddick didn't score the last 10 minutes against Memphis either. I guess that makes him trash too?

Adam Morrison will be a better pro than Reddick. If he can learn how to play defense.

Hmm...quite a paradox. Member since June '01. But only 8 posts. Do we rip him for missing the sarcasm?

If we ripped everyone every time someone missed sarcasm, then there'd be a good 2000 posts on this board just dedicated to the times I missed something

Reddick deserves a lot of credit for basically reinventing himself as a pro. A pros and cons list pre-draft would have had threes at the top, and Perimeter D waaaaaaaay way down the bottom. Now he's probably as useful a defender as he is a guy who can stretch the floor.
