Gothic II Gold
I've seen this RPG mentioned here and on the OO forums many times so I finally decided to buy from GoGamer the day after Christmas. Between this and EVE Online my game hours are spent.
![]() I love the plot to this game and the freeform style that allows you to do whatever you want. It now ranks high on my all-time RPG faves right next to Morrowind and NWN. I wish I had picked up the first game of the series because I feel like I am missing out on important story elements. I can't get used to the controls... they just feel wrong. That makes it difficult with combat and I hope I get used to it. I like the fact that the game is difficult from the start because it makes you think more about how to handle a situation rather than jumping in and trying to kill everything. I'm only a few hours into it and have not decided on the path I am going to take. I am leaning towards Paladin with 2H weapon skill. Any thoughts or tips from those of you that are playing this and are deeper into the game?

I played Gothic 2 recently, and still bought this version. They've added quite a bit more to the gold version with the expansion pack.
I'll give you the same advice that Buccaneer gave me, be patient and don't try to kill stuff that is too hard for you. That can be hard to determine, but with practice dying, you will learn ![]() Seriously, save frequently. I played the first time through as a Fire Magician. Now, I'm playing through as a Paladin who is going to end up focusing on 2H weapon skill. I think like many RPG's, it is easier early on as the paladin, but in my last game, my fire magician was a killing machine once I got him up to high levels. I think part of the greatness of this game, is that the experience is going to be quite different (lots of class exclusive quests) depending upon which path you take. You can always go back and play the game again as a different class. This is one of the few RPG's that has enticed me to do that. This game is certainly in my top 5 of all time RPG's. Oh yeah, I'm also trying to acquire the original as I feel like I missed out on stuff. The story eventually fills in during Gothic 2 to some extent. However, I'm still trying to acquire Gothic because I want to experience the story in all of its richness. It is apparently rare and valuable now (it routinely runs 50-75 dollars on eBay.) |
