OT: Ipod/Itunes help please

I frequently have problems updating my Ipod thru Itunes that I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on. When I update some playlists, for example, and then plug in my ipod into the usb, I get the normal msg, 'updating, do not disconnect,' but I oftentimes don't get that counter at the top that shows how many songs have been updated, how many more to go, etc, and that's when I know it really isn't updating - sure enough, when I unplug upon the normal prompt, my Ipod is not updated. But in Itunes, it shows the playlists I want it to. And in my master library, it shows all of the songs that I may have just brought in. And, as far as I can tell, I'm not overstretching my memory limits, though I have yet to find a foolproof way to figure that out. I have the Ipod mini, if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

under ipod you can set it to automatic or manually.

if you do it manually, slide the song in your library to your ipod icon on the left side

There are times when I plug my iPod in and it doesn't automatically come up in the left hand menu...if I wait a minute or two it usually will, but sometimes I have to wait until it says "OK to Disconnect" on the iPod screen, unplug it and then plug it back in. I don't know if there is a "fix" for this, but this pretty much always works for me.

If it's updating it will show the name of your iPod in the left hand list and at the top show "updating" and should count down the songs or something, that is what mine does.
