Cat Calls 911 To Help Ill Owner

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A loyal and very bright pet came to the rescue for a disabled man on Thursday night.

Gary Rosheisen was making his way from his wheelchair to his bed when he fell, NBC 4 reported.

He was in pain and could not get up on his own, so his cat, Tommy, ran to the phone and dialed 911.

"He had come in and punched the two right buttons on the phone, by miracle, and called help for me," Rosheisen said. "He sensed I needed help."

Rosheisen said he had been training Tommy with the phone a little but never expected he would be able to do what he did. Police responded to the call and said they were amazed at what the pet did.

So let them in, you heartless bastard!

Outdoor cats live 2-3 years less than indoor cats.

Jan. 3, 2006 10:24 AM VOORHEES, N.J. - Driving down the New Jersey Turnpike can be scary enough. But imagine doing it clinging to the drive train of an SUV.

That was how a domestic shorthair cat traveled for 70 miles before being rescued.

The driver was going down the turnpike from Newark to Cherry Hill two days before Christmas when another driver spotted the cat through the wheel well.

The driver took the frightened feline into the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees. The association's director speculated that the cat was warming up by the engine when the driver took off.

The cat's paws were burned, a claw was missing and its fur was singed. But otherwise, it's OK.

The shelter has named the cat "Miracle" and hopes to find someone who will adopt it and keep it inside.

They are inside! I'm talking about not letting the cat into the bedroom at night because he's young and rowdy and makes noise all night long...

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- There may still be good reason to call the kitten Miracle, but some animal welfare officials got some key details wrong in recounting the tale of the tabby who hitched a harrowing ride on the New Jersey Turnpike.Slideshow: Pictures Of Miracle, The Cat
Video: Miracle Cat Survives Ride
Initially, the group said a cat clung to the underside of a sport utility vehicle that traveled about 70 miles on the highway in late December. It turns out it was more like 30 miles, a Ford Taurus rather than an SUV and the cat was tucked in an engine compartment rather than hanging onto the bottom of the vehicle. The woman who found the cat told the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill for Wednesday's newspapers that the cat seemed to have gotten under the hood of the state-owned Ford Taurus she drives while it was in a Newark parking garage on Dec. 22.The driver, Gwen Cobb, lives in Cherry Hill but spends two days a week in Newark as her job as community relations manager for the state Division of Banking and Insurance. She said that as she drove home that night, a man in a BMW rolled down his window around Interchange 13 in Elizabeth, just a few miles into her ride home. She rolled down her window, too."'You're not going to believe this, but there's a cat underneath your car. I saw the head and I saw the paws,"' she said, quoting the man. "Mind you, we're going 70 miles an hour."Cobb pulled off in New Brunswick to check. She heard a meow before the cat sauntered out from under the car. "He was very, very friendly, as affectionate as could be," Cobb said. She took him home and then to the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees the next day.The shelter's director, Karen Dixon-Aquino, said her staff misunderstood Cobb's story in the excitement of the moment."Our staff was under the impression that (Cobb) didn't even pull off until Exit 4," she said. "That's what they heard, not necessarily what she said. Certainly there was no attempt to make stuff up."The cat has become a feline sensation.Dixon-Aquino said that her shelter has placed about 50 cats in the homes of people who came to see about adopting Miracle, who will be adopted after recovering from a respiratory infection. While Miracle was going down the highway, wonder if the Indiana Jones theme song was playing in its head...
