Dan O'Brien's been fired.

Add this to John Allen being re-assigned to basically selling hot dogs.

I think you'll like Bob Castellini.

No verdict until we know the replacement. My worst fear is that he hires Pinella to GM.

I don't think Piniella will be hired as GM... he's already said he wants to take this year off. But, if the Reds suck next year, which is the general consensus, Narron will likely be out and Piniella would definitely be a candidate for the managerial job. Cincinnati loves Piniella... he did bring the Reds their last championship in '90.

I knew O'Brien was doomed when he signed Milton. Signing a HR pitcher in that park just makes no sense. Also, his whole "pitch to contact" philosophy and the whole "make the minor leaguers take a pitch" every time they bat approach just didn't work. Good move as far as I'm concerned, no matter who the replacement is.

Castellini said he asked Pinella to work as a consultant for his first year. Lou declined, citing his year off, but said he would come to spring training.

it will be interesting to see who is picked to replace O'Brien. He certainly did better than Bowden did in that he was building the minors again- something that doesn't happen overnight. However, it seems like his style/approach was far different than Castellini's

Twins General Manager Terry Ryan is thrilled that his assistant GM, Wayne Krivsky, has been hired as the new general manager in Cincinnati.

"He called me this afternoon and he was overjoyed," Ryan said. "But he was also appreciative of his last 12 years here, which makes you feel good."

Ryan now might have to shuffle his front office staff as Krivsky leaves to pursue his dream job. Krivsky, one of Ryan's most trusted confidants who filled numerous roles within the organization, was selected from a field of nine candidates to become the 17th general manager in Reds history,

Krivsky negotiated many multiyear contracts, including ones for Torii Hunter, Brad Radke and Johan Santana. He helped prepare cases for arbitration and was well-versed on the rules concerning waivers, rosters and the basic agreement. Krivsky also scouted the National League and the Twins' minor league affiliates. Krivsky was the most prominent of Twins officials who believed Joe Nathan could become a closer, leading to the trade for Nathan in 2004.

One minor impact of losing Krivsky could be felt Monday if the Twins wind up in arbitration with righthander Kyle Lohse. Krivsky helped prepare the case, but the Twins should be able to carry on because Ryan and assistant general manager Bill Smith usually attended the hearings with Krivsky.

he's already said his first goal is to improve the pitching... here's hoping he can follow through on that one and even get us "good" pitching instead of the constant influx of "re-treads" or "comeback poty" candidates (recovering from injury)
