O Brother, Where Art Thou!
Greatest Movie EVER. No question.
For me, there is nothing I'd rather watch when I'm feeling down. Oh, and George Clooney is one of the most under-rated actor of our time.

It's a great movie. Excellent. I think George Clooney is properly rated. He's not over-rated, or under-rated. He used to suffer from the "pretty boy" syndrome a bit, but I don't find anyone under rating him anymore. He has shown that he can do more than just play George Clooney, though there still is no one better at playing George Clooney than George Clooney. No question. Feeling down, Schmidty? Still upset about that UofM/MSU basketball game? Don't worry about it, tiger. They'll get 'em next time! ![]()

Not greatest ever, but sure is pretty great. My second favourite Cohen bros. film behind Miller's Crossing.
And yes Clooney is underrated. |

Maybe I should have said "The greatest movie that makes me feel the best". Also, my favorite soundtrack ever, although I'm also a bluegrass nut anyway.

I really think that this movie will be considered a classic in 20 years or so. Regardless, it should be already.

Wonderful flick! It definetly deserves a special edition DVD.
And Clooney is definetly underrated in terms of 'guy flicks'. He is seen by a lot of people as still some actor chicks like. But with "O'Brother Where Are Thou" and "Ocean's Eleven" among others, he's done some great guy flicks.

In the baptism scene take a look at the female head that is just over Tim Blake Nelson's shoulder. That's my wife!!!
Seriously, everyone in Jackson and the surrounding area was in that movie. We bought a car and our salesman was one of the big black guys on the chain gang. It was I think 50% of the Mississippi economy that summer.

I'm not a bluegrass nut, but I'll agree with you on the soundtrack. I Am the Man of Constant Sorrow has got to be in my top 20 songs all time.

Very good movie. Deserves that "new classic" moniker it gets on TNT. Best movie ever, no, not quite. Still, very good, tho.

The thing that gets me about the movie is when they guys go into the radio station and sing... hard to suspend my disbelief on that one, even though they try their best to keep that mike in front of Clooney's mouth. But it is a very funny movie.
But I think Clooney is underrated. He had one of the best acting turns of the year in Syriana and directed one of the best films of the year in Good Night, and Good Luck. Sure, maybe you could nip in and say Solaris takes away from his lustre (that movie was not very good), but he has made some very interesting work recently, and is definitely one of the most intriguing actors working today.

My wife and I just went to an Alison Krauss concert and heard Dan Tyminski sing "Man of Constant Sorrow". Beforehand, he talked about telling his wife about his role in the movie.
"It's a voiceover", he said. "What's a voiceover?", she asked. "Well, it's my voice but it'll be coming out of George Clooney's body." She paused for a second and said, "You just described my fantasy." |

I like Solaris. And Out of Sight too. So, I do think Clooney has put a pretty good career together so far. Of course, I will leave out mentioning that Batman movie.

I liked it until I realized I had made the silly assumption that the whole plot was actually going somewhere. I still would like to see the original and see where they went wrong.

The original is tedious...interesting, but very very very very very slow. Kind of reminds me of the guy from "Monk" in the movie "Paulie" --I'm Russian, I /like/ long stories... |

Where's astrofan64 to determine the over/under-ratedness of George Clooney?

I find the remake to be a lot better than the original. I think it was one of the few good movies where the mood and themes are the plot. Another example of that type would probably be Thin Red Line (and from what I've heard, Malik's new movie, The New World). I think very few movies can succeed in this style (where the movie evokes emotion and reaction without using a lot of plot devices), but I have liked some of them. One of the best things about Solaris to me is the omnipresent song that changes throughout the movie. It does an incredible job of conveying the feeling of each scene. That's why I was totally pissed when I heard the song as a directtv commercial (the one with the kid on the beach flying a satellite as though it were a kite).
