Football Season is NOT over!!!

No, this thread is not about the Pro Bowl. It's about something much more important -- pie!

I went to Dominick's Friday, and they gave me a scratch and win ticket. I have 4 plays and each play has three choices that I can scratch off: run, pass, and long pass. If I get 100 yards, I win whatever is under the end zone area. I already scratched off the end zone, and my potential prize is -- you guessed it -- a free bakery 9 inch fruit pie (must use club card)!!

So here's the deal. First person to post a reply in this thread gets to call the first play. Once I post the results, the next person to reply gets to call the next play, and so on. One play per poster.

4 plays left in the game, we're down by 4, 100 yards to go...let's roll!

Nice call, king! The quarterback throws a tight spiral, leading the open tight end perfectly. He picks up a few more yards after the catch before the free safety brings him down. 25 yards gained on the play.

The Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator are on the same page. The call goes in for an outside run. The ball is tossed to the running back, who catches the entire defense by surprise! He gains about 20 yards before he's brought down by the cornerback -- but wait! What a move! He jukes past him and picks up ten more yards before being forced out of bounds! 30 yards on the play! The running back leaps up, and makes the signal for a first down. He can smell that fruit pie already!

Not true. This is the second of these I've received, and last time I lost and there was exactly one path to success. We'll see who was wrong when the game is over! Um, unless we win, then I can't scratch off the other choices. But who cares, we'll have won the game!

Back to the well. The QB fakes the handoff, drops back, and rifles a pass to the TE. He's not very open this time, but he makes the catch, and the strong safety pulls him down for a gain of ten yards.

No wonder you never win at these, CW. You suck. One play, 35 yards to go.

Handoff to Alexander.

Just kidding.

rksmuf sends out the playcall -- a draw to the halfback. The quarterback, VPI, is anxious to use his skillz to win the game, and in the huddle, he calls a hail mary. VPI drops back, there's not much pressure, and he lets the ball loose. It looks great, sailing into the endzone. About twelve players jump up to grab for it, and...none are able to catch it. The ball falls helplessly to the ground, incomplete. Rksmuf bolts onto the field screaming, VPI has his head in his hands. The receivers are sitting in the endzone crying. There will be no fruit pie celebration tonight.

Well, now we can see who made the good and bad calls, even if it seems obvious.

1st down: King definitely made the right call. His pass play went for 25 yards. A run would have picked up 10, and a long pass would have been incomplete.

Like Holmgren, I refuse to shake the hands of the fruit pie winners.

2nd down: SkyDog and WSU team up to get the right play in. Their run went for 30 yards, while a pass would have got 15, and a long pass would have got 20. Everything was going perfectly. Until CW showed up...

3rd down: The run had them totally fooled, CW, why didn't you stick with it? A run would have got us 25 yards. However, your 10-yard pass wasn't the worst possible outcome -- a long pass would have been incomplete.

4th down: Obviously, we didn't need to draft a running back. If we had given it to him again, he would have picked up 25 yards. Too bad I said one play per poster -- otherwise, maybe SkyDog would have called the play on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th down. Anyway, a pass would have gone for 15 yards, not enough no matter what we had done before.

So the only way we could have won was pass, run, run, run. Nice job king, SkyDog, WSU, and rksmuf (just kidding). Thanks for ruining our fun, CW and VPI!

Art Schlichter and Rae Carruth would probably like to pass..

I'm sure they've had just enough pounding up the middle...

Safeway has been doing this the last month, too - between my wife and I, we're 0-5 and each ticket had exactly one chance to win.

In complete contradiction, each of the last two scratchoffs would have won with:

Pass - Long Pass - Long Pass - Long Pass.
