Speaking of officiating....
ACC suspends crew for call in Florida State-Duke game
February 6, 2006 GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- The referees who worked the Florida State-Duke game were suspended for one game Monday for what the league said was an unnecessary technical foul on a Seminoles player. The crew of Mike Eades, Ray Natili and Ed Corbett shouldn't have assessed a technical on Florida State's Alexander Johnson in the second half of Duke's 97-96 overtime win Saturday, said John Clougherty, coordinator of men's basketball officials for the Atlantic Coast Conference. The technical was Johnson's fifth foul, and he left with 9:23 remaining. Johnson had 13 points and 11 rebounds before going to the bench. "It came as a surprise to me," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said Monday. Johnson drew his fourth foul for an intentional foul on Duke center Shelden Williams, who quickly got to his feet and bumped Johnson. Television replays showed Johnson attempting to back away. The confrontation had resulted in technicals for both players. Referees also whistled Johnson for an intentional foul against Williams in the first half. |

I like the position they're taking.
Double technicals are the biggest pussy calls in basketball, not to mention a scream out of "I have no idea what just happened!"

Missing from the quote above is the fact that the officials could have used a TV replay to see what went on and who was at fault, but chose not to.

I'm not sure anyone that isn't a Duke fan has much doubt that they knew exactly what went on and who was at fault, which is why they chose not to use the replay and why they're suspended. I watched some of the Duke @ BC game. The last minute was awful. First Redick two-hand shoves off a defender to get himself open so he can shoot the free throws. Then Williams mugs the layup attempt. The worst part is I really want to see Duke play a straight up fairly called game because they are without a doubt a great basketball team. It's unfair to the fans and to the Blue Devils to be left with the feeling that they were unfairly aided by the refs in at least half their close games.
