Ben Roethlisburger is getting his beard cut off on Letterman!
It's on now! Wow... can't believe he's letting himself do that on the Letterman show!

I think Letterman had him trapped. I'm not sure if Ben knew about it before hand.

There was talk about this goin' on last night and today. Pretty sure he knew about it, since he supposedly signed an endorsement deal with Gilette to do it with their new razor.

I thought it was funny that Ben said he didn't think he got in on his touchdown. I wasn't suprised that they were gonna go for it on 4th and an inch. Perhaps they should have so the whiners didn't have anything to cry about.

That's the part that makes the all the uproar over the non-overturn silly. They would have scored on the next play.

i think as the days go on, people will start forgetting that play and the PI and focus mainly on the 1 holding call that negated stevens catch at the 3. That is arguably the only call that made a drastic impact on the game. IMHO anyway

Bettis would have farted as he took the handoff getting the necessary velocity to fall right on the goal line for a centimeter gain.

I would like to see the percentages in a situation like that. Despite all the stuff you see on sportscenter (colts and pats with the goal line stands), I bet a 4th and inches at the goal is a high percentage success.

I don't think they had a choice. although...that would have been pretty funny to see them score on 3rd down and then instead of an extra point, the officials lined it up to let them try to score another TD. ![]() |

If Manning wouldn't have p*ssied out and called his own number the colts would have scored there. Never seen that guy run a sneak. Ever.

I think that call that made a huge impact. I would not say it was the only call that had one however. I don't mean to comment on the quality of the calls below, just examine the effects had the calls gone the other way. The Jackson OPI cost the Hawks four points directly. You don't think they would have liked those points in the fourth quarter? Despite Ben's statements, the Steelers would have kicked the FG had Ben been marked down just outside the goal. You don't think the Seahawks would have liked the Steelers to have four less points? And while I think that the holding call had a huge imact (I happen to believe that the Seahawks win if that's not called) there were at least two others that directly affected the number of points gained, while that particular one did not take points away from or award points to either team. Hard to argue those that did had less impact on the outcome of the game.

I will never believe that the Steelers would not have gone for it on 4th down.

Cowher has lived and died by going for it in situations like that. There wouldn't have been a chance in hell he would have sent out the kicking unit in that situation.

That's not entirely true. Overall, Cowher has a history of wussing out and being conservative in the big spot. It definately has cost him in the past. His tough guy image kind of hides that but he's not a gambler. That being said I firmly believe he goes for it in this spot.

Well, I remember several games where he has gone for it. There was that shitty playoff game against the pats (9-7 victory) where he did go for it. My comment was meant to say that he has done things like going for it on 4th and whatever in the past. He has failed a lot, im not saying he hasn't.

I can't give you specifics...I just recall him doing things that made me think he was way too conservative in certain spots. Just an observation. Personally I was happy the Steelers won. I thought Cowher deserved a SB win. He's a rare breed in today's game. A hard ass with longevity. Hard to find now and I think he's genuinely a good guy.

Onside kicking in SB XXX, onside against the colts, putting Stewart in a postition to have to win against the Broncos in 97( )...etc. He is a gambler. Perhaps not by choice but he has gambled.

IIRC, Cowher was a gambler early on in his career but has gotten pretty conservative lately (within the past 3-4 years).

Ben said, on Letterman last night, that during the review, they had already decided to go for it, with a QB sneak, if the TD was overturned. He also said he told Cowher that he did not think that he got in. Those two things make it pretty clear to me that the Steelers would have gone for it on fourth and goal. |
