OT: anyone going to try to qualify for a WSOP seat?
It is only February but the WSOP online qualifications seem to be in full swing. I'm curious if any FOFC'ers are going to try to win a seat either in the main event or other event. Since bonus whoring has been very, very good to me I've decided to take a small portion of my winnings and try to win a seat for a few events. I was thinking about writing this up in a dynasty but it could be a short lame dynasty. If however, others were also trying to win a seat and would be willing to contribute I would be willing to write it up. So FOFC poker players: Are you going to try to win a seat? If not, why not? If so which event are you looking at and which site(s) will you be playing at?
here is the event schedule. hxxp://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/2006wsop.asp I'm going to try to get into event #24 Omaha hi/lo and #36 limit shootout on the prima network. I've got some left over VIP points at a Bet2Bet site and am going to try to get into the ME that way. If/When that doesn't work I will look for other ways to get in. |

I'm definitely going to try. However, right now, my efforts are focused on trying to get a seat for the EPT Championship event in Monte Carlo next month.

I am still planning on going to vegas for the WSoP from 7/29 to 8/6. In fact, I already have my room booked with radii at the Barbary Coast.
I am going to try and qualify for these events: 3-Aug-06 Thursday 10:00 AM 39 No-Limit Hold'em 1 day event $1,000.00 5-Aug-06 Saturday 10:00 AM 40 No-Limit Hold'em $1,500.00 I have 25k VIP points on Stars and close to that many players points on Party. I'll use these to enter satelites once they start running and try and qualify that way. Even if I don't make it into an event, Ill still play in the daily second chance $540 NL events...they also have $225 events at 11pm every night.

I reserve the right to change my mind, but I have no plans at this time to try for any of those seats. I have several reasons: 1) The Main Event stretches out for two weeks - far too long for me to stay in Vegas, in my experience. 2) I'm projecting the ME to have about 8000 participants, making it much too much of a crapshoot to suit me. 3) I project all the NLHE events to have at least 1000 participants, which make all of those pretty much crapshoots also. The only other game I play is limit HE, and I'm clearly not a good enough tournament player at limit to make it worthwhile for me to play. 4) My poker game has gone awry in the past month with no signs of recovery in sight. I think I'm starting to play like those idiots I used to beat like a drum. I'm closer to retreating entirely than digging myself deeper (which a WSOP seat would make me do). 5) The more I see of poker & poker players, the more I don't like them. And the more that I see that I would NOT be an asset to the breed. The events I'm most interested in (relatively speaking) are the NLHE shootouts, which seem to fit my skills and interests best. |

And, as I have mentioned to you directly, there are *plenty* of events well beyond anything that is posted in the WSOP official schedule weeks or months in advance. Every single day during the WSOP, there will be literally *countless* single table events, multiple multi-table events, and plenty of standing tables running cash games -- there is plenty of action on-site to occupy poker players of pretty much any interest level. There is absolutely no need to feel that there's only one or two events that fit your tastes -- if you want to play in some events for a few hundred dollars, there will be an opportunity to do so at least once every day, probably more than that. Most of these events (at least the larger entry ones) are efforts to win either cash or WSOP entry chips -- $500 denomination chips usable for any WSOP event. Of course, there is a robust market for these chips -- I saw many people buying and selling them for face value, so it converts to cash pretty easily. In any event -- the WSOP is a great time to be in town to play poker, even if you're not focused on the even itself. The games everywhere are good, and if you are primarily a limit player (like I am) it's still very good -- there are lots and lots of no-limit tournament players wandering around looking for a game, and when they populate your limit game, it's all good. |

I, for one, would have a tough time spending $10,000 on a seat in the main event, even though the idea is pretty exciting. Any event I enter that's for stakes that high, I make sure that the prize is either convertible to cash or legally transferrable -- at the end of the line, I think I'd likely duck out and take the cash.

My intent was to run my bankroll up to where I want it for my Vegas trip which is planned around the WSOP, and then to spend some time trying to qualify for the main event.
i've taken a little detour though and have hardly played any poker for about 2 weeks now, and don't know when the urge to seriously start playing again will come back, so I have no idea what I'll be doing at this point ![]() |

I may try in April or May to get a seat. I just do not feel like my tournament game is up to par right now. I have not been practicing it at all. I have just been grinding it away. I am planning on picking up four tournament books with my next round of boogster points, so that may help.

If you don't already have them, if found that Harrington's two books were incredibly helpful to my game. I think Radii also feels the same about the books.

Everyone is on the harrington bandwagon, and they should be, but also think about Phil Gordon's little green book. I'm about 1/3 of the way through it right now and it is excellent. Lastly, you might want to check out hxxp://pokersourceonline.com/ as well as they have some better offers than boogster for some sites. |

I have the two Harrington books. They are good reads. I am thinking of getting Little Green Book, Tournament Poker for Advanced Players, Making the Final Table, and Kill Phil. I should add that I do not play just strictly Holdem. I like to play Omaha and Seven Card Stud, both High and High/Low. I rad books and then right a research paper of sorts. It has done wonders for me shorthanded limit game.
I should mention that I am abit of a book junkie. Right now I am reading Super/System. So much of the stuff is outdated, but it is a classic.
