Is this the game for us

A friend of mine who lives in DC and I have been toying with doing an online league with the two of us. Will this game fit the bill? Do we both need the game? Do we have to operate a website or can we email files back and forth? How easy is this to do? Will it still be a good experience although there will only be two of us? Anything else you could think of for us in terms of this game and how it would work for what we're looking for?

Hi ya Rowech

(I'm leaving the question to be answered by those that are familiar with the multi-player aspect of the game, but I wanted to at least be sociable to someone from visiting from the tabletop world )

Yes, you both need to buy the game.

No, you don't need a web site -- one of you will be the commish, and the non-commish will have to email a file to the commish every time you simulate stuff.

It can have drawbacks with just two people, but there won't be any problems. I'd set some ground rules about trading with the computer teams, though.

As for if it fits the bill, I guess it depends on what you're looking for. But it should be fun.

I run an office league that has varied between 5 and 9 human GMs. The only real issue we have is trading with the AI as there is no mechanism for that in an MP league. We work this by having a GM propose a trade with the AI, and the other GMs debate whether or not they'd take that trade if they were the AI team. This works really well with a group of guys that know each other and don't have an axe to grind. No idea how well it will work with just two of you.

The rest of it would work just fine. The commish player e-mails a set of export files (you usually zip that folder up and e-mail it, and the other GM would extract that zip file into their leagues folder), while the other GM player e-mails his export back after doing the turn.

The draft you have to do live, but you can export right before the other GM's pick so he can work with the game files. But he'll have to tell the commish what his pick is as all picks are done on the commish machine.

We've had a great time and have been running the league since soon after FOF2k4 shipped (2 years and counting...)

Man, I must work with the wrong people. I tried to introduce this game to 15-20 people and they thought the demo wasn't good. How'd you get them to buy it?

I work for a game company, so we have a nice collection of gamers and sports nuts. It really wasn't that hard...

Did anyone else read the original post, then the replies, then the original several more times while thinking "Is what game right for you?" before they remember that this forum is actually based on a specific game?

Actually, I was thinking "well, link to the game or SOMETHING, genius." Oops.

Thank you. I actually at one time had The College Years and FOF2 I think it was. The desire to do an online league has brought me back.
