Dennis Green to Detroit?
On Team 1270 in Detroit, it's now being reported Mooch is going to the NFC, but not the Lions. The new rumor has Dennis Green coming to Detroit to become the coach.
I'd love to have Mariucci become the head coach of the Lions, as I think he can turn it around, but if this is the case, I am not sure what to think about Green. He's a great offensive coach, but I dunno' what he can do to help out our defense. If they're going to go the minority route (which I think is a great idea so long as they do it because the guy can coach and not because they want to score points with the city or leauge) I'd go after Ty Willingham. Far fetched, yeah, but I think he's got that kind of drive to turn us around. Anyways, just postin' what I heard. |

But would Ty Willingham realistically leave a program like Notre Dame for a sad-sack NFL franchise with little realistic hope in the near future of playing in the Super Bowl? Especially after only, what, one or two seasons? I'd say unless the Lions threw a bundle of money at him, that's not gonna happen.

I hope Mariucci is the guy. If it's anyone but Mariucci I will be disapointed. Can Millen really be stupid enough to fire his coach a month after he has just said he will keep him and not have a quality replacement lined up? I hope he's smarter then that. If Dennis Green is the guy they want why didn't they get him a month ago and not wait a whole month? Mariucci will be coaching the Lions next year.

Gold, I agree, but a month ago I was hoping that we would fire morty and hire Green. I prefer Mooch, but will be happy with Green.

Green will not come if Millen is still in control. Greene will only go to a team where he is the President of football operations. He has stated that many times.

Dennis Green will probably be the minority interview they have to do before they hire Mooch.

I think Willingham will be at Notre Dame a minimum of 5 years. He already declined interest in the NFL once this year. The guy is teacher and a mentor to his players. College ball suits him. My guess is he's there at least 10 years and is a legend long after he's gone.

I really agree that Green will not be the man. If Millen got canned Green would be a good canidate, but the two will not be able to run things together.
Im not a Loins fan, but I do hope they hire Mooch so they can start to get things turned around. With Mooch's ties to the state of Michigan, he should be a guy that will be with the team for the long haul. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Green never coaches again. Since he left the Vikings, both of his dream jobs, with San Francisco and Oakland, have been available and he's been passed up. Anything else is going to be a massive letdown for him.

This is not true. He said he would only take the Jacksonville job if he were also president. By his reasoning it was beacause they did not have a proven front-office. He said he would be more than happy to be nothing but the 49ers coach. While that might be the only situation where he'd be "just" the coach, he will indeed consider jobs where he is only the coach. |

Greene has decided not to even bother interviewing for the Lions job.
