NBA All-Star Saturday Night.....

....Walter McCarty sang the national anthem. It was borderline laughable. Ok..it was laughable. Not quite Carl Lewis bad, but you could see some of the players trying not to laugh, and failing.

I didn't think it was THAT bad. It was laughable only b/c he's a laughable borderline NBA player and he's singing the National Anthem.

Well, I think he figured that was as close as he was gonna get to the NBA All-Star game.

Oh and they paid him.

I agree. It was AWFUL.

Just because you can do "runs", does not mean you are a good singer. As a singer myself, that dude was off key more than a few times during that anthem.

By the way, I was thinking about this during the anthems, and I think that Canada's anthem kicks our anthem's ass. Hard.

Is it sad that I can remember the words to Canada's more easily than our own?

I'm a big Blue Jays fan, so I learned the Canadian anthem back during the World Series years and yeah...it's way better than ours. But it's like, for some reason, it's the one thing everyone wants to change, but wants to do nothing about.

America the Beautiful being the logical choice as the replacement, if only because everyone knows it. Or at least, it's easier to remember and sounds like an actual song.

Very sad, but very understandable.

Francis Scott Key's poem was excellent, but it makes a crappy anthem. We really need to change it. And no, I don't want the atrocious "God Bless America" as our anthem.

There's always "America, F**k Yeah!" but I'm not sure how well that one would go over in sporting venues.

What a joke the slam dunk contest is. I mean come one, how the hell can someone miss 14 straight times and not get penalized for it in the scoring?

Yep. It's why I don't even bother watching anymore.

I enjoyed myself. It was annoying, but I'd rather see someone win on a great that was finished, than a mediocre dunk that was default.

I started hearing the Canadian anthem when I was watching hockey games as a kid, and seriously looked forward to when the Rangers took on Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, etc. so I could hear it.

So Nate Robinson only won because he's a lil' guy? I didn't see the thing as it happened.

Yeah it was frustrating that it took so many attempts... but you've got to admit that the dunk by Igluodala in the first round was pretty fuckin' incredible. I also thought that Robinson's dunk where he jumped over Spud Webb was a classic dunk as well.

I'm not a basketball fan, but radii and I watched this last night and I enjoyed it. Got a little irritated when they kept letting the guy try over and over again - but it was cool to see the things they can do...

We watched the skills contests also, and I couldn't believe how badly some of those guys did in the 3 point contest!

The Iguodala dunk coming from behind the backboard was awesome(as were the comments about AI passing to him from Barkley and whoever else was commentating at the time), and the dunk w/ Spud Webb was awesome.

Highlight of the evening for me:

Magic Johnson talking about Nate Robinson giving "little people" everywhere hope.

Until I surfed through the columns at espn.com I thought the reference to "missing 14 times" were exaggeration for effect ... sonuvabi ... he really did need 14 do-overs.
And then he won. That's f'n pathetic.

I wouldn't have seen this except for DVR now... but they really need to put a limit on how many chances you get. And get some more contestants. I agree that he shouldn't have won because of how many tries he took. But if he had made it the first time or two, that would've been one of the best dunks ever. Just because of how far away he was when he threw it up there.

But the Iguodala dunk was the best one. I thought he was going to hit his head on the backboard. That took a LOT of hang time and skill.
