His radio show is horrible! Why can't I live in a market with a local sports radio station!
Time to try the Tony Bruno show. |

I am so torn on Cowherd its not even funny. There are times when he makes a call that is spot on, but then he goes off on some idiotic tangent for 30 minutes at a time.
That said, try the local Memphis talk shows, most of those are terrible. |

His spanning the globe segment is, to me, the best segment on radio.
I really enjoy most of his show, but even if I didn't I'd still listen to that segment. |

Spanning The Globe is a good segment. Probably the main thing I like about his show.
Overall, he isn't bad to me. Can't believe someone wants local talk shows though, I usually can't stand local sports guys. They haven't moved up the radio chain for a reason IMO, lack of talent and they are uninteresting.

I think he has a good show. I don't always agree with him, but that's normal with any talk show host.
Spanning the globe and daily football fix are worth the price of admission alone. I hate that I miss the first hour of his show every day because the local station has some local political talk show on until 11 (which also means no Mike and Mike). |

I didnt even realize Cowherd had his own national show, he's our local sports anchor on our NBC station in Oregon.

I like the guy. Sometimes he seems to take positions just to piss people off, but overall, I think his show is WAY better than Dan Patrick's. Mike & Mike could be decent if they didn't have to be a morning show-type radio show, with more shtick and skits than substance. Herd seems to strike a fairly decent balance.

How does he swing that from Bristol? I swear that's where he says he is now. I know he used to be a Pac NW guy, but he's beendoing ESPN since Kornheiser left, right? Does he have a syndicated TV bit, or does he mail it in for your station?

I thought he was horrible and was very glad to see him taken off here in DC. With Kornheiser leaving, I'm afraid they'll bring him back though.

Anything that the Ticket here in Dallas has on is way better than any national guy...IMO. But I like a little humor and entertainment stuff thrown in with my sports talk. So it doesn't necessarily mean that a local guy doesn't have enough talent, what it usually means is that the guy refuses to talk straight sports for 4 hours, or the guy isn't an opinionated East Coaster.

I have no idea what happened, but usually on my home for lunch, I get Jim Rome. Today I had Cowherd. Note to self: Remember to pack the new Coldplay cd after lunch. You will need it.

re: Cowherd -- a steaming pile of horse dung posing as a national host. The fact he has a national show is a prime indication that contraction in needed in the "league" (i.e. if this idiot has a show then there's too many shows). He's Exhibit A, while 2LiveStews are Exhibit B.
re: local vs national sportstalk -- I've yet to hear a local host in Atlanta that is anywhere near as good/talented/entertaining/worth listening to as 95% of the lowest rung of the national ladder. We've had a few worth a damn (Ferrall comes to mind) but those who had the skills pretty much ended up national at some point, the only exception I can think of is the guy here who does a very good job with his baseball show (SD, Tek, GDawg, somebody ... I'm drawing a blank on his name)

That is crazy talk. Rome is the only sports talk radio guy I've ever been able to endure. Well, except maybe Steve Sommers, but what he did really wasn't sports. |

Heard Cowherd for the first time since Kornheiser came back last week. He was skewering Vince Young for not participating in the combine (even though Mel & others say there's not much point for certain first rounders). He seemed to be going way out of his way to piss of Texas fans. Not sure if this is his schtick or not ... but I found it to be quite lame.
Spanning the globe is a good segment though. |

Also, my favorite part of his show is the daily football fix. He's the only one the remotley covers football all year round. Lastly, Jim Rome annoys the shit out of me. I have never heard a guy avoid hard hitting questions like him. He acts like if you come into the jungle you recieve karma and all is forgiven. I guess he learned his lesson after Jim Everett smacked him around in his earlier years. |

I think I know what you are talking about, the baseball show on 790 is the only sports talk I listen to on that network (Usually I'm listening to 680 or classic rock on the FM)

I look forward to his show everyday.. Better than Dan Patrick now, because he starts great topics.. Spanning the globe is great along with the daily football fix.. Nobody is perfect, but I think his show is a good listen..

Not a fan, but he is not so bad that I turn to the mess that is the other sports talk station in town. If he gets too annoying, I just listen to music.

He said there is no way he can do MNF, PTI, and the radio show.. and said that MNF and PTI are definately happening... so he said he will not be doing the radio show while doing MNF...

I'm pretty sure I heard him the other day say that the radio thing wouldn't be happening much past April. I agree, I don't think he can juggle all that either. As for Cowherd, I can't even stand hearing him on the commercials for his show, so I'm not going to bother listening to it (I'm at work anyway, so I'm listening to music...catching Mr. Tony the other day was a bit of an oddity). The commercials make him sound like he's trying to be in the Rome mold...and I can't stand Rome at all (I wish Everett would have done a much better job on him). Dan Patrick - used to love him on Sports Center, but seems a bit too full of himself on the radio. The Olbermann thing is interesting (caught a bit on Friday when I came home a little early), but seems gimmicky. Mike & Mike I listen to on the way in to work, but as soon as they get too schticky I flip the channel until it's over. I don't like most of the bits, and the songs are annoying too. Tony Bruno - haven't heard much of him in the last decade, the last time I did was when he was part of the morning team on WIP with Cataldi and Morganti (with the occasional visit from SalPal). Cataldi was *much* more of a loudmouth, Bruno must have picked up some pointers.

I can't believe Rome is still on the radio. All the guy does is rip everyone who is in the news.
Bruno is just WAY too loud, can't stand him. Patrick is WAY to full of himself now that Dibs is gone. It's amazing how the second fiddle on a radio show can hold it together. Mike & Mike is great, as long as Greenie doesn't play up being Greenie too much. |

I like Cowherd. But than again I don't like Penn State or Texas. I remember before the college football season started, he ripped on some guy for thinking Penn State had a chance this year. The guy called him out and said do you do any research at all. Cowherd got kind of upset, called him a meatball. He still hasn't admited he was wrong. In fact he made a Penn State joke today on the air.

Now that the Washington Post has purchased a few radio stations in the DC area (in conjunction with WTOP), the thinking in Kornheiser will eventually be moving his radio show to the new Post-owned WTWP. The MNF gig provides him with an easy excuse to leave his current show on WTEM, and then at some later date he starts back on WTWP.
Also, keep in mind TK is taking a BUS to the MNF games, so he'd be travelling a few days at a time and physically not available to do a radio show. |
